If anybody has not gotten to this part of the project, I don’t recommend these 3rd brake lights. Dead after one year. My hole pattern is set up for these so I’ll buy another one but when I install the door wrap I think I am gonna try and find something a bit higher quality.

Kudos to you. It was a pain to build mine in a one car garage! Can't imagine an apt complex.

Kudos to my girlfriend putting up with all the shards of metal everywhere, panels in the dining room and extrusions in the living room

How far back from the cab is everyone mounting theirs on the bed?

is like an idea if I have enough space between the two should I encounter any flex between the two

I learned from @Taco Camper and did the same piano hinge covered with fabric but used vinyl coated polyethelene fabric (got it at a boat supply store, local fabric shops can have it sometimes too). I live in Oregon and this created a satisfying waterproof seal.

If I had remembered to grab the video from my security camera I would share it but it’s already been wiped. I keep a months worth of footage on it sooooo yeah.

It’s entirely doable by a handful of people

Thought about this subject a lot. My front camper frame alum panel/screw heads immediately behind the window are 1.0” away from the rear window glass (the rear most part) and at the same angle (averaged across the top and bottom of the glass, which is a bit curved if I remember right). So basically, the closest anything is to the cab in 1.0”. It is 1.7” above the cab at the very lowest point (which is the fwd center bolt heads). Very little movement in my experience and this appears to work. If I was gonna jump it or put like boats/racks on the top I would have increased that by 0.5” above the cab.

Rained like hell here for hours Friday and the door hinge seals work. No drips inside. I am not positive about the rest of it and need to do some more water testing. I never sealed some parts of it when I built it in a hurry.

Read what I quoted from your earlier post. Slowly. My kids don't get my jokes. Tacomaworld was my last hope.

Which direction are you guys mounting fans on the roof? I got maxxfan deluxe with the rain guard, I’m worried about mounting it with the opening facing the incoming wind and ripping it off driving fast and worried about flipping it with the opening facing the rear with possibility of rain coming in. Thoughts?

Mount it facing front of the truck, but make a small wind deflector for it. That's what most the retail drifter companies do.

Has anyone found some knock off SouthCos that they are happy with? I bought some reasonably priced ($110 for all 6) genuine ones a while back but messed up and got the wrong size. That $110 was about at the top of my budget for genuine ones so I think I'm looking for knock offs now. Any recommendations?

i would suggest going southco. The knockoff ones don’t last too long so ur going to spend more money replacing them(tell me how I know). Buy once cry once

I would find something from Super Bright LED's. I found some lights on Amazon that I almost bought but the reviews all said they were constantly needing to be replaced or dim. All the reviews on Superbright LEDs were positive and sounded like better quality.

Yeah unless I can find the exact same bolt pattern(or larger) I am stuck with this one until I make another rear door.

I feel like it's just two bolts and the middle hole. I put the suggested light on with the plan of changing it down the line. I would just leave those bolts in place and use that same middle hole for passing all the cable.

If your state laws permit it why not just do an LED strip above the bumper. That will appease the 3 rear stop lamp requirement unless you have to have one mounted above the existing tail lamps
