Anyone tow a car with a uhaul car dolly?

I need to tow a Corolla 350 miles. Anyone have experience particularly with a uhaul dolly or other? I will have one mountain stretch grapevine(5).

 

I haven’t tow one, but seen a few that use the Uhaul dolly to tow their vehicle. It’s best to ask uhaul directly since they know their product more than most of us.

 

Yep, they work great. Cheap too.

 

I’ve towed many cars and trucks on dollies. Make sure you put the front wheels (of the Corolla) on the dolly. Lock the steering wheel. And strap the tires down. Then let ‘er eat up the vine. Two tanks of gas later…ur home.

 

Towed my 27T Coupe and a friends 69 Camaro Z28 to a paint shop back in the 80’s. It all went well. Take your time

 

U-Haul has a tow calculator on their website. Enter tow vehicle and towed vehicle it will let you know before you get there. At our local stores they are all about safety and won't rent you a dolly if it won't handle it.

 

I’ll be making 1700 mile trip with the wife’s ‘06 accord on a UHaul dolly. Not worried in the slightest.
I’ll put up a thread once I’m finished that details it, if you want to wait to see my anecdote I’ll be towing 26/27th of this month.

 

Towed both with the dolly and car hauler. No issues at all thru the mountain passes of BC. I have the 6sp Manual but can't see a big difference with the Auto.

 

Yep I have used them many many times, they work great for towing. Ive pulled tons of cars around with them.

they work fine. (But noisy as hell). Tacoma sucks at towing though. But for reference on that towing statement. I Had to go get a friend 20 miles away, usually I’d use my 1ton diesel and full trailer, but storage is 15 miles away, so $50 to local uhall and pull the driveshaft off the Jeep was the quickest/ easiest option.

be certain corolla is SECURE

be certain ALL Lights work

stay in the right lane................lane changes are treacherous

tow 55-60 mph

AVOID rush hour traffic.........take a break when U refuel

DO NOT TAILGATE !!

 

Pulled this a bit over 800 miles



no problems. Towed fine. I averaged about 17 mpg at 65-70.

 

I hardly felt the Zuk back there. Lol

the wheel bearings on those dollys are usually on the way out

i would Not tow hard / fast

55 will get U there & IF U have issues hopefully not extreme

U will get there 45mins later

 

As far as I had to go, it would have been more like 3-4 hours longer going 55

 

Yep, been there and done that. Been to the end of the world and back with a wheel and stick in my hand...got the scars to prove it.

Ya are probably gonna want to pull to the side and unload at the first uphil. Just hang in there and you will be amazed at what this little truck an actually do. It's a learning curve. Use sport mode and the low gears on the down hill. stay in the truckers lane until you are way clear to pass and don't buy this truck to do this ...stuff, with. It will do it, however, but it sure isn't made for it. I went up 29 or so grapevines between Layton Utah and Blythe California. I think I went down 37, I was more amazed at the ability of the truck to hold the load on the downhill while using the low gears. Stay in your own lane and you will be fine. By the way, what corolla Ya got for sale?
