They have my visual seal of approval!

I would guess that billet aluminum is at least as strong as the pvc/nylon stock pieces.

My fear is that these might be a high theft opportunity item. If I bought, I’d definitely want to use some security bolts instead of standard hex.

I agree with you on the aesthetics of it but I tie stuff down in my bed quite a bit and some of it is of some good weight. I don't want something failing and my load ending on the street that's the reason why I asked. If not that's fine.

This is a great question! One of my first engineering jobs was for a flat panel TV mounting company where we UL listed all of our TV mounts. This meant static load testing at 4x the rated capacity, and I spent part of my time designing the fixtures to test to UL capacity, followed by complete failure. I took this approach with my Tie-Down Anchors and tested them on a 20 ton hydraulic press. I bolted the Tie-Down Anchor to the base, then tried to pull it apart with the hydraulic jack, and used a 2200 lb inline strain gauge to measure the force. While I have not published any of this information, I did it so I knew that I was not selling a product that could create a liability issue if it failed. Once the 2200 lb strain gauge maxed out I stopped testing. Yes, the anchor deflected, and hook dented the billet, but it was was far from failing. Next I decided to do a little real world testing, since the Tie-Down Anchor was obviously plenty strong. What I learned was that the anchor itself is far form being the weak link in the system. I simply put a large 2" ratchet strap between two of the anchors (the type you use to tie down a car to a trailer) and proceeded to crank it down. What I learned was that the sheetmetal of the bed is going to bow in way before the stock anchor, or my billet version fails. For this reason, I put a warning label on every set I sell that states not to exceed the truck's factory load rating, not because the Tie-Down Anchor will fail, but because I don't want people thinking they can haul a heavier load by installing these.

Before the Bed Rail Tie-Down Anchors hit the market, I will be doing the same testing just for my own due diligence and so I can sleep at night knowing I'm not putting a risky product out there that could fail and hurt someone. Given that the stock bed rail anchors are rated for 220 lbs, I'm not too concerned about how these will perform, but I will still test them before I put them out in the wild.

Hope that answers your question and gives you confidence in the parts I'm making.

Can you post a pic of both side by side (the rail tie downs vs the bed tie downs) please?

Also I recently got my patent underway on these. What do you guys think of replacing the Torque Spec with Patent Pending?
