Your LBS did not let you demo M vs L. I might be a hair taller and I went with a L and sometimes feel cramped.

    Maybe try different geometry?

I say get new bike were you feel confident with it.

Yeah, I had a large Ibis Mojo3 prior to buying the Spur; so I think the Large Ripley AF would fit me well if I end up going that route.

LBS has no chester or oneup composites. They told me they backordered. While looking at youtube reviews saw these clones.

    Yeah.
I'm 5'11" on a proud day, mostly 5'10" these days. Spending much of my younger years on a BMX bike, I tended to lean towards Medium sizes when I first started mountain biking. I eventually realized they were too cramped for me. It's much easier and more comfortable to move around on a Large.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to demo the bike before buying it. I ordered it sight unseen a week after it was released last summer, so I had to depend on the word of the Transition engineer I spoke with to help me with sizing. It may even be psychological at this point, but there's definitely something holding me back from feeling completely comfortable and dialed in. The longer stem doesn't help much at all and probably just made it worse.

yes they are "clones" but that basically just mean ripoffs. they're practically identical other than one is a ripoff and one is the real thing lol. I definitely don't condone buying the fookers, but can't tell people what to do with their money.

My OneUp composites had a bearing failure sooner than any other pedal I’ve owned. Pedal came off just as I was starting a downhill run at Grand Targhee. Bad luck or par for the course? I don’t know. Cheap and easy to fix but past Shimano pedals and my wife’s Chesters have basically been trouble-free. Just one data point.

Global bikes. they had specialized alloy but no composites flats. this the place i bought 2 bikes at. I try to stay with the local guys since they tune my bikes for free.

I usually get $10 off coupons for parts so I try going there.

    Looks awesome!

Can you open the tailgate with the rack down without it hitting?

I’m thinking about upgrading to this rack and would like to avoid any hitch extensions or drops if possible.

Big cottonwood is south of Parley's though. The PC area trails are south/east as well. Good to hear that it wasn't too bad over there yesterday. My friend had to vacate his place in Summit Park and was very worried about losing his house for a bit there.

I skipped the bike commute this morning cause I didn't want to expose myself or my daughter to the smoke.

Nice! Mid-week series? Where were the races held this year?

    not enough.
Yeah. True but the fire smoke seems to be headed more towards park city and north of the city than into BCC. At least, from what I coudl gather.
The fire is also significantly smaller than predicted. Still not good though. Yeah, some friends have parents in the SP area that were evacuated. I've been evacuated before. Not fun. But yeah, i skipped my bike commute this morning as well. drove in instead.

yeah. midweek series. They were at bob's basin, solitude, deer valley, snowbird, and woodward.
I skipped the solitude one, I was out of town. I really liked DV and the bird. Devo and BMT as race tracks are phenomenal.

Are you asking about the OneUps? I have foot problems and have since switched pedals to Pedaling Innovations super-sized pedals, which I like. That said the OneUps didn’t feel any different than other flats I’ve had, from Crank Bros and others. I did prefer the feel of plastic pedals vs alloy when striking rocks which I seem to do a lot.

With the rack in the normal "load bikes" position but with no bikes on it, yes the tailgate clears it by a few inches. I was super careful to lower it slowly while watching!

What I did NOT try yet was mounting a bike in the tray closest to the tailgate, angling the 1UP down, and then tying to open the tailgate to see if the down position on the 1UP is enough for clearance with bikes mounted. 1UP calls it the "rear clearance" position. I have seen pictures from others showing it clearing no problem. yet to your point I don't know if they had an extension on there or not.

This was a relatively quick fit/install test as I had some other things I had to do, plus I have one more part showing up that I need to install (EZ Pull handle accessory). That is my only gripe so far. The handle you need to pull to change the angle of the mount is in a weird spot and it isn't actually that easy to pull. Might need some breaking in time. Anyway, the easy pull handle supposedly makes it super easy and not frustrating.
