I remember about this time last year when our air quality was so bad it was off the chart as far as the index goes, when we had the big wildfire fire just about a mile away

I think we are still going through house air filters sooner than usual because of that. Whenever the wind kicks up it finds a bunch of ash left over from then

 

I hear you, I have to change my HVAC filter at least 1x a month out here. I added one of these and it's helped a bit with dust and pet dander inside the house.

So that little one has worked pretty decent for you? I get allergies pretty bad during pollen season and might give that big one a try in my living room. Kitchen and living room are all one big open room with a vaulted ceiling so the bigger one would do better in there. Maybe drop a couple of the small ones in the bedrooms.

 

good stuff thanks, I might have to pick up one of those little guys for our bedroom. My allergies aren't as bad as they were when I was a kid, but my wife gets them pretty bad. If either of us has bad allergies then neither of us is sleeping well that night

One thing that really helped was getting the most expensive air filters for the central air system. I always bought the cheap ones before the fire last year, started getting the highest rated ones for filtering and you can really tell a difference if you have allergies.

What sucks though is that they get ruined by the ash/smoke outside just as fast lol.

yea, that is how my house is setup, the front living room and kitchen are connected with a vaulted ceiling splitting them. It mostly lives there. I figured it was the best place to try and catch particulates since its between the front and back doors and where the most dirt would get tracked in by the dogs and I. It definitely seems to keep less dust from accumulating.

When the smoke was really bad the last few weeks I moved it to my bedroom at night and it helped with the sinus irritation I was experiencing.

When i was a kid I had an "Ionic Breeze" which trapped an amazing amount of particulates. It helped quite a bit with my cat allergy (had 2 cats)... Turns out it also wasn't good for my health because they create ozone lol

 

Yeah! I've been buying those too, with the wild fire smoke they seem to clog up in 2-3 weeks. That said the $30 or so is worth it over the cheap cheap ones that don't seem to catch much more than hair and dust bunnies

 

My wife has a deathly allergy to mold and all this wildfire smoke and ash reeks havoc on her as well. I got this for her about 2 years ago and it's been a serious game changer

I got one of the K&N house filters. Seems to work pretty decently. Nice that I can wash it. I keep a disposable filter to use when the K&N one is drying for a day before reinstalling. Even the HVAC guys said they like the K&N because they work well and are washable. They seem to work better for the house than the intake in the truck

 

Wait...are you shitting me right now or does K&N actually make washable house filters??? I'm going to have to look into this

I hope it comes with a K&N sticker I can put on our front door

Spending a couple hundred on better air quality seems like a given when it makes a big personal health difference.
