I sent a picture to our tool crib person to see if she would order me a couple for the machine shop. Be nice if Fastenal carries them.

Raising the transfer case up wasn't enough clearance for the pan. Hope to be able to get a oompaloompa out of bed and pull down on this pipe. Looks like it will be just enough clearance just undoing one side. 20210816_122145.jpg

Or at least wait until it got bad again. I forget the year but a coworker was approaching 400k miles on his old Duramax. Rusty but trusty

Problem is, especially with thin sheet metal, often (usually?) by the time it breaks the paint, it's already bad. It doesn't take much time for that cancer to really spread!

Dang! Went to find helper and she was just heading out the door for dentist appointment. I'll assemble this oil/fluid evacuation device and give it a whirl.

    Cool!
Yeah, I'd guess by weight of can I got a couple of quarts drawn out. I don't want to be hastily stobbing that hose down in there. My luck it be jamming on a wire of some sorts. I'll get the giant cookie pan out for precaution. #1 return from wherever he went this AM so I can have him help me pull down on that exhaust a little.

@T-yoda , does 107 inch pounds sound correct? For the pan bolts. Didn't look like anything surprising in there, darn good shape I thought, and fluid smelled fine as well.
Preventive maintenance can't hurt. I did get a hot oil warning when wheeling it in AZ, why I'm changing filter and SOME fluid.20210816_142746.jpg

Ive got the same 1/2" dr deep impact sockets right there, cheap but they've held up well. Mine are called Tack Life but Amazon has changed their name since I snagged em.

Yes, I like this set for what they are, and looked for a SAE set but noticed they didn't have this brand. I purchased a different brand of metric axle nut socket set, Cal-Hawk-USA, and they work but pretty sloppy on the 1/2" square drive end.
@T-yoda , thanks for the torque. I've got them all up there and finger tight now. Just grabbing inch pound torque wrench.

Edit; yes this set is same name Tack-Life

Don't let it ride for long Shane. What can quickly be fixed will turn into something that looks like my beater/weekender project car...

This is gonna take some serious work in the Winter... I wouldn't bother with it too much, but I have to fix it for inspection. I got my last inspection at a sticker slap place and I still feel dirty about it. Trying to go legit this time

Did transfer case also since skidplate was off. Put the other crossmember back on, skid plate and top it off. Good thing I'm not a mechanic for a living.
