Cool. I've got a dd214 as well. Probably some of those guys making the Toyos in Atlanta do too.
Again, either support US manufacturing, or don't. It's your choice.
Your money and your rig if you prefer Thailand/China made tires. Don't feel you have to defend that choice to me. If you think they are the same because of where the home office is, then OK. They're not, but OK.

Lol that's because tire performance is subjective, depending on individual and circumstance. Either tire is good. Throw in Cooper AT3'S and make a choice.

Factor in a tire+ wheel weight. E rated tires are heavy af. If you are going for looks, get a taller tire.

I’m sure it was imported to Dubai though. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen tacos are only for NA.

Earlier hilux had diesel and a solid front axle. 1st gen taco had a gasser and IFS, not sure where the similarities are. I could be wrong though, maybe some parts werr shared, I doubt it though.

Toyota didn’t even plan on making small pick ups for NA. When they introduced Toyota pickups back in the day, they realized how popular they were becoming and people were loving them. So they made the first Tacoma to look like a “buff little horse” so it appealed more to the American market.

I live in Oregon also and love my wildpeaks… when we had the snow this year I was pulling people out left and right and had no issues.

So I can’t say that a company makes who manufactures a tire in Japan? Which they do if you follow the thread…there are ALSO AT3s made in Japan in the US market. I literally mentioned it, if it mattered. Because it might matter to someone. Where the fuck did I mention china?

Because I mention the tire is made in Japan I’m a China lover and don’t support US business? I DON’T have to defend shit to you fool. Get the fuck out of here with that shit. Your literally talking shit to a person who AGREES with you.

No, the Wildpeaks on the market are Thialand/China. I don't think you have any control over that. If you want Wildpeaks, more power to you. Did I imply you were responsible for the Chinese tires on the US market?

All I said in my OP was if country of origin mattered, then go with that. If not, don't. It's your money.

Ah so that is the origin story of the unicorn sticker Tacoma!

To OP I am happy with my SL wildpeaks 265/75R16. Good balance of tread, weight, sound, wet/snow performance for me.

To the earlier comment about availability, I got the same for my spare so I feel that is enough of a buffer if I get a flat while traveling. Though with recent supply chain breakdowns who knows the wait for replacements from day to day.

They make tires in the US, Thailand and China. The same guy with his DD214 in Atlanta is also in California. Still being a POG boot. Toyo does the same thing.

The at3w’s are as far as I know all mostly Thailand, USA and Japan. The Japan ones I think are for 18 inch + wheels. The only China peaks I know are the trails.

Again, country of origin is right there on the tire, so it makes it easy. If you can find USA made AT3Ws, great. I've yet to see any around here, so it makes the choice easy.

I've got Falken A/T3W and never been disappointed (275/70R17). Not stock height, but support Falken all the way.
Also, "American made (manufactured / designed / based / etc)" is a stupid argument ... you're driving a Tacoma. Don't pay more for feeling good about a company that will rip you off first chance they get.

I went with the Toyo At3s and like them a lot. I bought through Point S back last October where they had a buy 3 get 1 free. I’d see if they are going to run that again this year

Id your in the Terrebonne OR area you can drive my Tundra with the Falken.

I've had them about 15k and for the most part they have been great, really impressed with how they have done on hard pack and snow.

I do think about 1 in 10 is out of round.

Mine are made in China. When I got them they were significantly cheaper then other brands. But it looks like they have jumped in cost.

Id definitely consider other brands next time, especially if the cost is comparable.

Falken for the win. I’ve not used toto’s though. Went stock—> khumo->Li’s->cooper stmax-> falken. By far my favorite for on road and off road performance has been falken.

I ran the falkens and just put on toyos about 2000mi ago. The falkens were great but the soft tire compound is prone to sawtooth wear under braking. It happened on my taco and the wife’s 4Runner.
The falkens look better but so far the toyos are a better road tire.

    I've had both.

I went through 1000 miles, several trips to the shop, lots of wasted time and exactly 7 Wild Peak AT3Wtires until Discount Tire happily swapped them for another brand due to balancing issues.

I have had a set to Toyo AT3s for about 6 months now and they have been perfect.

I had a set of wildpeaks in E load, burned out for me in 35k miles and i swapped them out for the toyos. Wish i had more miles to comment on them, but worth considering the issues some of the falkens have. Cant say ive heard much on the toyos failing, only people gripe about the sidewall not being aggressive enough. (which shouldnt determine tire quality)
