So, I know this happens when you put lift kits on Tacoma‘s, but has anybody fixed the shutter you get when you take off after putting on a lift kit? I have already put a shim kit on the center carrier.
I’m just curious what anyone has done that actually fixed it

Return it to stock. A whole lot of engineering went into the suspension. Not so much lift kits.

Might be axle wrap. Did you use blocks in the back? New leaf springs?

I added a 1.5" AAL (Headstrong progressive) and got some shudder. I also added the OME carrier bearing drop spacer. It helped a little but i still have a slight shudder from take-off. Only thing i can think of to do left is an axle shim. But my shudder is so minor i might just leave it how it is.

Yes but stock is boring and let's face it the Tacoma looks like a "grandpa truck" in its stock form. Hundreds of thousands of Tacoma owners, including myself, are running trouble free with their lifts and heavy mods you just have to do it right.

You can try lots of stuff... Try measuring your driveline angles. Then you'll know what you need instead of guessing. My guess is you need like 2° axle shim.

:argue::argue::argue:Well, I plan on installing the OME shims this weekend. The OME carrier spacers seemed to work a little bit.
How much give does the carrier have? When the carrier is bolted in tight, i can move the joint up-down-left-right about 1/2” to 3/4”. That seems like too much play, especially when taking off?
I think it shouldn’t move at all?

If I installed the lift, I could probably figure it out, but I am fixing someone else’s stuff… I have no idea what exactly they did to it

I have the dreaded shudder also . Lifted 2.5 -3” . OME carrier shim also . Im about to order up a 1/2” shim for the driver side lean. I have the front coil spring spacer but it doesn’t do much . . Not sure if I should add the other tapered shims to the rear . I need to have my drive line angles measured . What I really want is the Tom Woods one piece drive shaft :spending:

Tons of people have reported the take off shake on their STOCK suspension Tacomas. My did it with stock suspension and it still does it with a 1 inch lift block.

My Tacoma shuttered too. Especially when accelerating from a stop. I threw a bunch of money at the problem (new drive shaft, new carrier bearing, dropped the carrier bearing). It ended up being the f***ing transmission fluid! It was old and breaking down. This issue is well documented on this site. I just wish I read about it before dropping money. I ended up taking it to the dealer, paid $300 for a full flush. Shutter was GONE.

My 06 shuttered at stock height and it shudders less once lifted. I spent a lot of time setting it up after the lift. No shims, carrier drop. The solution in due course is a TW shaft. However, Toyota, post lift, repaired my drive shaft under warranty and it shudders even less now and that was like 30,000 miles ago. I think I leave well enough alone. I just finished a 6,000 mile trip and have done several long distance tows of our boat. I think it is okay. When it is not, TW time.

    UPDATE:
So I found the shudder... It has NOTHING to do with the suspension, lift, or driveline... I changed the plugs to brand new NGK Iridiums and it takes off smooooth. I guess whoever installed the new plugs "F'd" something up (Maybe a coil) and my MPG went from 15 to 24.6 immediately.

When the coils heat up there is a slight shudder, so I will be replacing them as well.
