Vibration at "slow-down"

I have 220 miles on my '21 SR5 4x4 DCSB and when I slow down to a stop, the last 10 mph there is a vibration that I can feel up through the steering wheel. It's not extreme, but can be felt in the seat too. In older trucks I'd say that I have a warped brake rotor, but it isn't happening when braking at higher speeds. Anybody else getting this? It almost feels like I'm on mud terrains, but I'm on the factory 30 inch road tires.

 

At 220 miles, you should just head to the dealer and let them fix it.

That being said, both my 2018 and 2020 trucks required new drums to alleviate vibrations during deceleration. Both were fixed with less than 500 miles on the odometer.

 

So it was rear brake drums?

 

For my two trucks, it was. There was a TSB to resolve this for earlier year model trucks.

 

Try shifting the auto stick in neutral then brake it. My truck did the same initially...it wasn't anything major but you noticed a shutter very slightly there when you braked to a stop. At over 1k miles it totally disappeared. I chalked it up to the torque converter breaking in.

 

put some weight in the bed and see if it stops the decel vibes. Id bet a crisp benjamin it does.

 

Drive it for a while longer and see if it goes away. You aren't even through the break-in period yet. If not it is a perfect warranty issue.

 

Mine did this as soon as I left the dealer anytime I braked from 35 mph and down. The rear brake drum shoes were out of round. Go back and tell them to look at it.

 

I have an appointment for next Tuesday. I was planning on putting on my 3.5 inch lift over the weekend. Should I wait? I don't want them to try and blame the vibe on the lift or wheel spacers.

 

If it does, what would that point to?

 

3.5" lift? Yeah, better hold off. That's going to at least add needle bearing vibes.

 

driveline angle. Ive had a very slight vibe when slowing down through 20-10mph range since day 1. Goes away with weight in the bed or when towing a trailer. Nothings wrong. Good luck!

EDIT: in my case, nothings wrong. Hopefully you can reach a solution you're happy with

 

Hold off on lift until after the dealer.

My lift caused a rear vibe on deceleration. I had to install angle shims to stop the vibration. Braking caused the rear to lift more due to weight shift which increased the driveshaft angle to give the vibe. Just my personal experience. Oh, the fun of lifting a vehicle and the gremlins is brings out. I also needed the ECGS bushing for front vibe, after lifting it.

FWIW im at stock height with no intentions of lifting, and ive got a mini decel vibe. Id bet most do it to some degree

 

ecgs bushing and a set of 3° axle shims and you should be golden. And get ready, cause the dealer is just gonna tell you the vibe is normal. In any case, keep this thread updated, please

 

If you return to the dealer with the 3.5" lift installed, 99% chance you're paying for the fix and associated diagnosis fees. You will have no way to prove it was present prior to installing the lift.

 

My golden rule is to not modify a vehicle's drive train until the warranty is out, for this exact reason.

Granted, that's a lot harder to do if you buy a new vehicle, which I don't do.

 

Definitely not waiting 3yrs or 36k miles to lift it.

 

Yep. I waited until I was almost out of warranty before I lifted the truck.

 

Good point. I'm going to hook up a trailer to it with some weight this afternoon and see if it changes. It makes sense that if it does go away, it has nothing to do with the brakes and there's no need to go to the dealer. Thanks for that clarification.
