FEND-X Tacoma Wheel Liners

What route did you go?

 

I don’t wanna steal the show on a product specific thread. The material and basic shape of the fend-x product is awesome, I just messed it up pretty good when cutting/fitting for my application. I ended up making a bracket out of aluminum and cutting my own material to be recessed just under (and protecting) the air intake- similar to the “6inch strip” idea that @Dampahee had above. My end goal was to protect the intake as I removed my snorkel

 

Going to try it, still a bit skeptical. If it doesn't work I'll have to trim it super small to just cover the intake and if that's the case, this is not what I had in mind. Could have done that myself with a piece of aluminum. I'll try again another day.

 

Gotcha. I’d probably cut to fit, get it flush. Shit if you can make two out of one. Sell the other to someone with the same cuts as you.

Yeah, I get it. The material is fairly malleable when you apply heat, but I just wasn’t happy with the end result.

You can see what I ended up going with (then covered with black bedliner). The white strip is the aluminum bracket, then riveted on.

 

I should have been more cautious before purchasing these. I even talked to Cody about it. I could have just kept my old liners, trimmed them and secure them back in place over a fitted piece of aluminum kind-of like you did. So if anyone was wondering about trimmed fenders and this product, it's questionable. I'll post and update whenever I get around to trying to fit these again.

Any instructions on these? Just received mine and wondering what’s the best route to go? For some reason I thought these were pre drilled etc. but mine are not.

 

None that I've ever seen. I still haven't gotten around to putting mine in, but this is my plan. I bought some Ram Board or something like that off Amazon. It's like the stuff that contractors put down on flooring to protect it. It's pliable, but thick. I'm going to trace out the liners onto that and then cut them out. From there I'll find mounting holes and do some trimming or whatever is needed to adapt the liners to my needs. If you screw up, just get another piece of the Ram Board and start over. Transfer your finished template to the liners and cut and drill.

No problem! I just thought of something else. I bought a bunch of those stupid plastic retainer things that keep the OEM liners on and a bunch of those 10mm screws that in a few places under there as well. You can actually drive those screws into the plastic retainers for a firmer hold. You can find both of them on Amazon for fairly cheap.

 

Speaking of hardware, mine didn’t come with any. Did yours?

I’’ve been laser focused in the shop and almost completely knocked out the notorious FEND-X backlog. Inventory slots are now heavily regulated, in effort to assure quicker turnaround times as well as improving / providing a overall better customer experience during the order process. The only time I receive negative feedback on the Fend-X Liners are from folks who never reached out after receiving their Fend-X Liners and wing the install.

It was posted in a different thread, was able to dig it up, see below.

For future reference, please call in once you’ve received your Fend-X Liners. There are many tips-n-tricks that are very helpful that I will share with you.

Aside from calling me, I also offer FaceTime installation support.
