At 59900 took my 2016 in to have the gasket replaced. 3 times with the engine out and in, and 3 weeks, fixed it, apparently. New timing chain cover they claim to fix. I don't know if I would bother again. Never dripped onto floor, so live with it.

I bought my truck used a few months ago and have 36k on it. Just checked and found oil under my ps pump and surrounding area. It has never dripped on the floor but there's quite a bit of oil/dirt stuck to oil in that area. Will be making an appointment soon I guess. This is my second 3rd gen so I'm use to sitting in dealerships unfortunately.

This is one of the things I'm going to make sure to check carefully before I drive out of my powertrain warranty. My question is has any body seen a drip or worse had to refill the oil between changes? I came from Rangers before my 2017 Taco and they always needed to have their oil checked and topped off every few months either from burning the oil or dripping from somewhere. They were old, used, abused and cheap so never even thought to track it down and attempt to fix.

I guess my question to you guys who have had it repaired is if this problem was found after warranty would you bother to fix it?

Mine truck was leaking pretty bad at 40K. Oil drips off P/S pump & dripping oil onto skid plate. I would imagine in another 10K it would have been leaking onto ground. So yes mine needed to be fixed. Ask yourself this, if you have a leaking faucet do you leave it or fix it?

Had this happen to me on my 2016....

Luckily I had to take my RCI skid off since the access cover bolt decided to seize on me during my oil change. While under the truck I look up to this sight

    20200318_151148.jpg 20200318_151548.jpg

Called the dealership and schedule an appointment to have it checked out the next day. Drop it off at 8 am and get a call around 2pm the same day saying the engine is out and it should be done in 3-4 days.

My truck is currently at 49,000 miles and has a build date of Jan 2016

As nervous as I was with this repair, my truck came back perfectly fine. It's a lot of work but it's nothing they haven't done before.

Under my truck as I type this changing the oil. Just noticed the leak. My 3 year 36k mile warranty expired in January. Truck has 31K on it. Would that be covered by the 60k powertrain warranty?

I’ve been into the dealer 3 times for this and they give me a different BS story every time. First it was foreign grease that got flung up in that area. Then they said yeah it’s leaking but we don’t know where so they added UV dye to the oil and said to drive it for 1k miles. Took it back and they said there was no trace of UV dye. Well I’m 5k away from power train warranty ending so I’m taking it in again soon and insisting it gets fixed. The oil fairy isn’t coming in at night and spraying oil in the same place.

I would try going to a different dealer.

I don't really have an option they are the only dealer in my area. This thread actually reminded me to call Toyota corporate though. They are opening a case to look into it more.

Getting mine fixed. Under power train warranty (mine expires October 30, 2020). Glad I checked it before the warranty expired. It’s a $4k job. Told me one week. Got a 2020 Cement SR5 loaner with 300 miles on it. This thing runs very nice. 6264A8C1-8C04-4167-B2C6-1756CDD1231C.jpg
Heres a pic of my oil leak. This is after I wiped it clean a month ago, it came back , but didn’t drip on the ground. 3E3F81C0-F54B-4BB0-9F89-9CAE90FBE472.jpg

I'm scared to look under my 2017. I know I have something that looks wet and gunky on the passenger side of the engine down near the motor mount. But that could be from my yearly fluid film application.

I'm about 5k over my powertrain warranty..

I've yet to see a spot of oil on the ground in my garage, so I'll be worried when/if that happens.

Just got back from the dealership with my 2016 Tacoma, and they say Ive got the same issue. Oil leaking onto the PS Pump from the timing cover. I haven't noticed any drips at all underneath the truck, so was surprised to hear. Im out of warranty (76k) and cant afford a pricy repair like that right now.

I guess my question is, if it's a slow leak (not dripping on to the ground), is it fine to drive as long as I monitor oil consumption? Ive seen people try exterior fix's using gasket sealant. it's ugly, but does anyone know if its a possible fix? At least in the short term?
