yep don't have to wait on rain, just go straight for the most part. And if you have to turn a little bit like on a curvy road, you're transfer case isn't going to fall right out. Obviously not great to to a bunch of hard turns on tractiony surface in 4wd, but not going to insta-fubar for one time

Sliders supposed to be here tomorrow, but they're still in ohio as of this afternoon so we'll see

haven't had a chance to get to that junkyard yet because its been raining, but thinking I want to pull spindles for sure, side mirrors for spares, and maybe the diffs if they're cheap to send as cores to ecgs whenever I get around to regearing and lockering. I'm kinda tempted to drive down there to do in person pickup maybe this winter and just exchange ones I pulled, since I'm not really in the mood to ship two diff

Let me know if you decide you want to venture down in the winter. I've been thinking about doing the same.

If you go in person, you have to pay sales tax and it’s more expensive than just shipping it. It’s only about $70 to ship them two diffs.

I thoght about that. When I looked it was only a tad more for tax, but that was a straight up regear no locker. tax on a pretty arb would probably make it worse, I'll have to see how much more.

Its not really an easily shippable shape, so I worry about it. I know they fit in a 5gal bucket well

Too fast for my edit. Shipping was only $70 for both diffs because it’s on their account and they pay for shipping back to you. Tax is more, plus the cost of gas and your time.

ah I think I was thinking it was something like that per diff, so $200 in tax wasn't a whole lot more. did you ship them in the 5gal bucket?

Actually I just looked at my invoice and it was $56 total, for both diffs. Yes I shipped them in a 5 gallon bucket and wrapped the shit out of them in tape. So if you factor that in, maybe a total of $75 for shipping. What I did was just mail them my diffs, they built them and they mailed them back. Total time was a week. For me that made the most sense since my truck can be down for a bit and I didn’t have to pay core charges.

thats not too shabby actually. I'd probably have to do the other way around where I pay the core charge and then mail them backwards. was hoping to find a 3rd member cheapish so I could send those first, but I guess its no big dealio to return the cores as long as done within the right amount of time. Thats why I was planning on winter, since will have much more free time to rip apart then

I second the wrapping the bucket with tape and I'll add stuff all free space with paper/cardboard/whatever. I had one of my buckets crack in transit to ECGS. Not ideal.

I also sent them my diffs first to save some cash and FedEx predictably fucked around leaving my truck on jack stands for like 3 weeks. If I have them add a locker in my front (instead of installing a mechanical locker myself) I'm going with the core charge approach.

My plan was to order the third member online, get them to build it and then have them hold onto it. Then travel down there and let them swap them out and I won't have to deal with the core crap. It's not really a try at saving money, but effort. Between the Tacoma and maintaining three other cars I'm getting tired of lying on the garage floor.
