It is hard to say how far back and down they would have to be. The steering linkage might cause fitment issues on the driver side. However, the Powermax Garretts do fit on the 3rd gen. So there is a possibility. Would really have to look into it, as I have not.

I think you are talking about our conversation?

@Jon64l Nice and simple, If you report that it works well, I may copy and make a couple of those for myself. May be slightly improved if the outlet were vertical and draw an inch lower than the intake. Seems that might better promote a whirlwind.

Just checked my oil and coolant levels. Oil is fine, still looking nice too after like 2k miles or so, maybe 2500, since last oil change.

Coolant is low in the reservoir. Maybe half an inch to an inch above the "Low" line.

Will pick up some coolant this week and fill it.

Unfortunately, idk if I have a coolant leak at the turbos or not. I don't think I do...I don't see anything obvious...

On the driver side turbo oil line, can't tell if it's return or delivery, I get a little bit of seepage. Not enough to call a leak. For the army guys in here if there's any, it'd be a Class 1, just small seepage that after 1-2k miles looks like dirty gunk after it's mixed nicely with dirt/sand from the surrounding desert lol quick wipe of the rag and it's clean again.

Anyway. But I also can't remember what the coolant was at last time I did fluids.

All I know is that it can't be a *bad* leak, if there is one, because I've got like 5500mi on the turbos and even if it was at the "Full" line at install, that's not too bad I guess to go down at that rate....

I never have fluid on the ground under the truck, with exception for the a/c drain. Definitely no oil or coolant leaking, nothing that makes it to the ground anyway. So idk. Will have to be more attentive to that in the future. Maybe it was already getting low and I never noticed.

I live in the desert. So I suppose it's plausible that the thermostat valve opens more often in the summers and more coolant gets consumed? Idk. Lol

Unfortunately, if Coolant is being 'Consumed' then you have much bigger trouble than a leak. Just to be sure you are aware, the level in the overflow will vary noticeably with temperature? So be sure to compare levels either always when the motor is Hot, or always when cold.

If you suspect consumption: Head gasket trouble would consume coolant, and there is a neat and quick test for this at any typical garage. They attach at the radiator cap and sniff any air out of the radiator while the engine is running. If there is exhaust present in the coolant, a chemical in the device turns color.

Doesn't head gasket failure with coolant result in a white smoke? I don't have anything like that and I'm going to assume it's nothing like that too because the truck feels like it's running too well to be having issues lol

Simply put, without knowing what the level was at before, I think it's fine and that I just happen to be low on fluid and need to top it off.

Idk but I just don't have any feeling that something's gone wrong with the head gasket.

One or two of the other turbo'd guys have mentioned some coolant leaks at their turbos with their kits. Got me thinking I guess but I don't think I have the same trouble the more I think on it. :notsure:

Not particularly trying to chase after something that may not be present either. Will fill the reservoir and observe. :notsure:

If you have to get in there again and remove or tighten lines, you can always try a little Teflon tape on the threads. Or some pipe dope. I would get the slightest amount over a long time, but an oily film none the least. My fittings, inlet and outlet, were NPT. Tape on, and film gone.

I'm hoping so! I am interested in seeing what the stock bottom end can handle reliably. If i could be around 300 rwhp i'd be a happy camper. I have heard the stock pistons are only good to 400 crank hp so i'm going to try to keep it below that since it's my daily

I am starting to get excited for this project. Keep me posted on how these turn out!

I've been around the 250-300hp range for years on a stock block. You should be able to do the same with a good tune and well maintained motor

@mZiggy Sorry, I did not intend to cause you undue concern, I simply responded to your statement of possibly "Consuming" coolant. Loosing coolant is far less troublesome.

It would cause white smoke, depending on the extent of the leak. It also would eventually show black oily residue floating on the coolant in the overflow bottle, often sticking to the sides of the bottle as a dark ring.

Should observation raise any hint of concern, that radiator test is quick and definitive.

You're good. I have no white smoke and eyeballing the reservoir doesn't show me any grossness.

Another guy with a TT kit was telling me that the lines that came with our kits for the coolant lines allow coolant to evaporate out, so that could be what I'm observing and should check the fluid level with each oil change (I'm doing every 5k)

Good news! Happy to hear. And even though you do not need it at this time, I found the tool on Amazon complete for $37. This is what I was talking about, in case it helps anyone. Amazon has a video, takes 5 minutes.

Thats good to know, you have the 2RZ right? I think the 2TR is pretty similar. I am running 05Taco4x4’s old motor and it’s in nice shape, has about 120k miles on it. Just did a head gasket and ARP head studs about 5k miles ago.

The 2 motors are pretty close. Toyota built them to last forever. Same block different head. They just act like they should of came boosted from the factory. Did you do a balance shaft delete? Can't wait to see an efr on a 2tr
