Lube is the answer. Probably not releasing and resetting fulling. I used rem oil on all four pivot points and it immediately fixed the problem

weird? Same canopy on my 2014...never an issue and I ride some bumpy roads.
Had the XL on my 2006 with same rear window. Again, never an issue.
    Good luck.

Do you have a secret point break at the end of that long dirt road?

I have dual handles, and one side often pulls out of place when driving down bumpy roads. I keep the handles unlatched unless I need to lock the bed area. I also need to replace them every other year, due to the locks oxidizing and seizing. Nothing is perfect in this life. The front window area on mine has leaked since I bought it. Fortunately I paid $400 on Craigslist, not retail price.

Curious how many of these fellas with caps also have installed bed stiffeners, and if the ones that haven’t, have noticed any sort of flexing over time.. Bought my cap a few months ago on CL and doubt I’ll ever take it off. Is it imperative to install stiffeners?

I had my shell on for about 3 months before I noticed my bed separating and installed the Total Chaos bed stiffeners. I did some light off-roading and never overloaded my rack on top. I was pretty unimpressed with the bed rigidity, luckily the bed stiffeners straightened it right up and it hasn't been a problem since.

I have a Leer insulated (carpeted) fiberglass shell with Thule racks. I figure the shell weighs in around 180-190 lbs. When I go out of state or go on long camping trips, I put a cargo carrier on the racks for extra gear. Even without the added weight of the cargo carrier, I installed the bed stiffeners due to the static weight of the shell. Since I intalled the stiffeners with the shell on the truck I used a ratchet strap to lightly "cinch in" the bed rails near the tail gate.

"Is it imperative to install stiffeners?" Let me just say that since i intalled the Cali Raised stiffeners on my truck, I have one less thing to think about while cruising on a black top or rumbling down some forest service road.
