What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Why is want vs need so hard. I NEED lower control arms and cam gussets but I WANT a front roof rack and front bumper... not to mention a lot of other things

 

Me too. Ordered some and the Marlin crawler kit. Got alignment the other day and smooshed the tabs and seized bolts

 

Yup I knew mine where bad but last time I brought it in they told me they wouldn't be able to really do anything with the cam tabs, over half are bent and wont contact. and the bolts don't want to move. That's the kit I'm going to go with also. Seems way stronger then the Total Chaos ones for a couple bucks more.

 

Also looks way easier to install and still be stronger. I wasn't excited about cutting off the tabs but this should be cake

Is it easier to just replace the LCA or is the price saving worth just replacing the bushings?

Removing the stock cam tabs is a piece of cake. It's a couple spot welds to drill out and a whack with a chisel and they pop right off. I just did mine and installed the TC kit.

The marlin kit does look a lot beefier though!

I'm nearly done rebuilding my LCAs with new poly bushings. It's a pain. The ball joint is also a pain. There isn't much cost savings compared to a Moog LCA that comes all assembled and ready to go. I'm just hoping the bushings are noticeably better to justify the time and energy spent.

 

Thats where I am at. I did my LCA ball joints in the spring and now the bushings are shot. I also need to do the cam bolts so I figure just do it all. The ball joints I got are Moog and greaseable which is just pointless due to the front drive shafts being right on top. There is no way to get a grease gun on them. I would have preferred a sealed one. Also why I am leaning towards all new ones.

 

It was kinda on the spendy side at $75, but hey, now every time my truck starts my phone auto connects and it’s so convenient.

Just remove the stock radio, plug this in the back, dangle it somewhere behind the dash or fasten it to your liking, and enjoy. My comes up as CRUX Bluetooth device on my phone.

Those are the ones I ordered, I'm going to have to cut out the old ones so figured complete replacement was a no brainer

 

These are next on my list too, starting to get the infamous cam bolt pop from my driver front when I hit a bump at the right angle. Just shy of 200k and figured a whole new LCA and cam bolts would be easier than pressing a ball joint. 3 birds, one stone

 

I got a Bulletproof Fab skid plate about 5 years ago and had it Rhino Lined. The lining started to separate so I finally took the thing off to clean it up before winter.



Where it's all rusted to shit, it came off easily. The rest took some pulling with a pliar.



It really accumulated rust over the years. My plan was to clean it up, hit it with bedliner, and put it back on, but it's just going to do this all over again. I just decided to buy a second gen aluminum plate and let er buck. I'll fix the BPF one up and try to sell it.

 

Damn I was looking at OEM LCA but they are $263 each! Moog are $131 each. that is some savings. Or mevotech for $270 a pair

 

That is what I am wishing I did. That looks like a great price too.

 

I pulled mine off every other spring to clean and repaint and didn’t matter what paint and primer I used it just started to rust again. Got tired of it and put the aluminum one on last year and glad I did!

 

I added another 23 lbs to the rear with a double rifle pelican case . All in an effort to reduce my already shitty gas mileage by another 1/4 mile per gallon. But damn it looks cool! I will actually use it though. It can hold the tent during fall camping (for me and the wife) and rifles during hunting season at our south Georgia Hunting Camp!
