Wow. Talk about lying and being deceitful. This is what they call unethical.

If you had the "balls" to drive it in, you should own up to it at your repair place instead of trying to weasel your way through to make them fix it on their tab.

Man, you need a real lesson in morals.

    Merry Christmas...

Man this thread turned nasty in a hurry.

It's not a slam-dunk that this is a valid insurance claim - individual policies vary.

But your insurance doesn't shut off the instant you leave the public highway - otherwise parking lot accidents or cars stolen from your driveway would never be covered.

Collision coverage is the coverage you use when you drive your truck into stupid things.

Ooops, I didn't seem him and I hit him....

I thought I could make it through the light....

I thought I had a protected left turn signal....

The curve was sharper than I thought...

I wasn't expecting an ice patch on that curve...

    and FTW:

The mud puddle was deeper and stickier than I thought...

It's an accident claim. You contract with the insurance company to cover you in the event of unforseen stupidity. If you show too much unforseen stupidity, they raise your rates or cancel you.

Eh, I got mine stuck last night when the passenger side sank and a couple of inches of water came in. my airbag light is on and I remembered you had a thread about it. Although my entire cab didn't flood I still need to vacuum the water out, maybe today after work.

To all others, why are you guys bashing on him for having fun with his truck? Shit happens (as did to me) and we deal with it. I will deal with my mistake and try to clean it up myself and I would trade it in, I love this truck lol.

to the op, I have heard that the clock spring can cause this, have you checked into it?

Yeah, I think as long as that's the attitude it's all good.

The sentiment on the board turned against the OP when he started talking about trying to get the dealer to warranty the repair after having cleaned up the truck and not telling them what happened. :p

Hm.... Rather than continue with drama on this chill forum, I'll just continue on with relevant discussion ;)

This happened weeks ago, haven't had time to update but here it is...

So I got the interior carpet all cleaned up.
Started by letting it air dry in my back yard and laying down a layer of baking soda where it was left to further air dry. Vacuumed the bakin soda off and continued throughout the carpet with a brush and worked any excess dirt around the edges that dried. Came off very well with a shoe polish brush. Then hung, patted (excessively) and blown with an air compressor with nozzle attachment. Looked, felt and smelled fine and unnoticeable.

Put it all back together (Oddly nice to know how the entire interior comes apart, but funny how fast it took me to do it to my new truck ;) ) and went to the dealer.

Long story short, they cleared the code with what seems to be a software to read all the airbag system devices (ecu, sensors, etc..i got a printout report). The ecu had the error, but once cleared and test driven it never returned! Guess it was just a short in the system from the water and once dried it was OK. Got my scheduled maintenance too, and my entire charging system (alt, bat, starter...) checked and all good.

So after this loooooong cleanup and labor and uneasy time of havin my truck apart, its all back and riding, looking and smellin good :) Maybe this info can help someone later....

So I guess I can let this experience be my first scar in my new Taco, but I already feel like this thing is tough. Thanks for the advise from everyone, but I guess I got lucky and it wasn't anything big. Ready to start thinkin of mods!

I'd start with the "no more giant mud hole mod"

I wish I had the money to just buy a new truck and not worry about what I do to it. Oh well, hope those cel and airbag lamps stay off.

Water is a vicious enemy indeed.

I hope you get your truck back to "normal". There are lots of modifications that help you roll through water, but it's always dicey unless you're really familiar with the trail and the vehicle you're driving.

I am glad to read it was fixed and it's a keeper.

People don't realize if you trade in a current model year ( or even a year old) vehicle you can bet the dealer will have that truck or car in the back on a lift for 45 minutes doing paint thickness testing, checking panel serial numbers and especially checking for water damage. Like cellphones there are plenty of giveaways to water damage all over the place for the dealer to find. Water damage is hard to hide. Especially if mud is involved. The there is the on board computer which will be lit up with sensor failures many won;t bother to have cleared in their haste to get rid of it..Somethings may not clear except by a dealer for obvious reasons.

And that is if you trade it on a car.........If you trade a 2011 Truck on another truck.. all kinds of flags will be raised.

People need to know their vehicle's limitations. In a snowstorm without fail most of the cars in the run off ditches are 4WDs

The only way you would have made it through that hole in a prerunner is if you installed the "Jesus mod" on your truck. LOL.. do you have a locker at least? I have tried some crazy stuff in my prerunner but i wouldnt even attempted that unless i had a locked lifted 4x4 with some good mud terrains.

First off, I'm glad to see that you got everything cleaned up and the faults cleared. Based upon my education & experience, airbag faults can only be cleared with diagnostic equipment and not simply by disconnecting the battery. Because it is a safety related issue, the manufactures want the vehicle to be looked at by trained professionals.

I've worked @ a dealer (specifically European cars) for 8+ years now so I have seen my fair share of shady customers. To everyone reading this it is always better to be honest and befriend the Service Adviser and if you can, chat with a Tech personally. Once a customer is tagged as trying to pull the wool over the dealer's eyes, they usually are treated a little differently. By different I mean the SA or the Tech won't go out of their way to help the customer and they have a hard time believing the customer from that point on.

I did the same thing you did last August except my trucks a 4x4. I have been lucky and have had no airbag lights come on. But I also had my interior cleaned and got all the water and mud out. Do you still have this truck or did you trade it in? Did anything else go wrong with your truck that I should be prepared for in the upcoming future?
