I was just watching the Youtube " Must Have Mods. " and a Tune was one of them. Pedal Commander and I forgot what else he said. I love the performance of my truck so not sure what a Tune would do honestly?

@tonered has tried to explain it to me and I haven’t really understood yet. He swears by the tune. Would have been cool to try switching trucks while he was visiting but I didn’t have childcare coverage and my kids are too young to leave at home alone. That plus beers.

    meh,

I have considered it, but mostly for fuel economy while cruising. If I want power: stomp and dump… kinda the point of a stick IMHO.

There is an awesome tune, available for MT only. Premium SFOB, it’s full Otto cycle, none of this Atkinson nonsense. Really wakes up this 3.5.

Was considering a super charger. Now I'm not sure.

I’ve read on here that folks with magnuson supercharger and Magnuson locked tune feel less low end torque than on SFOB.

So if I understand this right, it’s as if the truck responds the way it does at 3000 rpm even when below 2000?

Pretty much yes. Naturally, with Atkinson cycle you lose torque.

With the full Otto tune, it feels like 30-40 more torque at lower rpms. You do feel it in mid and high rpm range, but it’s really noticeable at lower rpms.

    Hope that helps.

And to get SFOB we buy OVT on our own or pay for one time flashy flashy?

I think the OVT licensing / zen desk headache had me stalled out before but maybe it’s about time.

I hate the idea of paying for a tune and then paying for another tune later on.

    REALLY???

Oh man, another con for going from the VF Tune to the Magnuson.

And another advantage of the VF Tune; if gas prices ever go CRAZY I can always tune back down to regular. That option wouldn't be available with the SC.

Yeah, this one poster was pretty disappointed. Thread is here somewhere, maybe I’ll find it once I’m done work.

Wow, that would be a bummer eh?

Ya, dig up that post if ya would please. I've still got the SC bouncing around in my head.

You can get any local “tuner” to flash it for you for like 200-250$, but then you won’t have the software and the tune pack. Software and tune pack is about 700$. I only bought the software and bought 2 tunes from a TW member, much cheaper that way.

It was actually pretty straightforward installing the tune, considering I suck big time with computers.

Ahh, a cheaper option than $700? Part of my foot dragging is that I work in software all day and I do wires at night to destress from software misery. Diving into OVT is likely to just piss me off to high heaven. At $200-$300 I’d for sure be tinkering but $700 for something I’m sure to be disappointed with from a pure software and licensing perspective is the roadblock. Sometimes knowing too much is a bad thing, you see all the flaws.

    So. Many. Stickers.
The pedal commander is just a throttle dump, not a tune. Not worth it.

Now the manual tunes offered by VF tuner are well worth it. I'm running SFOB on mine and it really allows you to give it the beans in the lower gears at lower RPM. It also evens out the throttle and torque tables for the engine so even though you're in a manual, it's a more even throttle response across the power band. The tune is worth it in my book. And if you drive conservatively with it you will see significant improvements in miles per gallon. And if you drive with a heavy foot you'll see significant improvements in smiles per gallon. It's also huge off-road since it allows you to use that 4lo and first or second gear and walk up pretty much anything
