Agree, never thought MSRP was a "good deal" until now. Used are as much as new these days. So, thats not a smart option.
Just where we are at. Used cars are up 40% or so over past year. So, it sort of evens out.
Like it of not, MSRP seems to be as good of a deal you can get these days. Hard pill to swallow...
If you are not aware of that, you are not in the market or paying attention as to what's been going on.
I was shocked, but am now better informed as to the situation.

Bought it for $5k less than msrp, low miles, excellent condition. Dealer offering to buy it back and cut me a check for the difference.

*Edit its not a tacoma, its a loaded Accord i'm trading in to get the tacoma.*

2 dealers in my area do not charge over MSRP. Longo and Toyota of Carlsbad. I called a dozen in my area and found these 2.
    Worth a few phone calls.

Dealers here never charged over msrp. If you were dumb enough to pay the msrp cost, well thats another story. I haven't spoken to a sales person what their charging now, but i'd bet its not over msrp.

Obviously you may be a little confused on why people pay MSRP or over right now in this market. Same reason dealers were giving away 2020 models last year. There was no negotiating tactics at all, the only thing you had to do is walk into a dealership with a pulse and credit score and they were giving the vehicle away just like the housing market in 08. Times have changed as they did when this happened. People don’t have a choice when they need a vehicle and what needs that may be and then not being able to find a vehicle if there isn’t any inventory. You say people are dumb but I can guarantee you that you have paid over MSRP for a lot of stuff in life and more than you think but that’s another story. You don’t know people situations and obviously you haven’t been aware of what going on the last year and a half but feel free to maybe learn what’s going on. It may just show you how you, just like everyone else in the world is paying premiums for houses, household items, food, clothing and cars, fuel, and all other necessities.

Does this include the vehicle's key protection as well? I guess my guy is charging me the "Tire and Wheel protection, Key replacement, and a Theft Package." The theft aka window etch is BS, but the wheel and tire and key might come in handy being rough on keys and we have a ton of pot holes and or off-roading mishaps...zero deductible so something to fight for new stuff right before the protection is up.

Declining the extended warranty they're pitching, can add that before the powertrain is up for peanuts.

I had to get educated last month when I started shopping around for a new truck.
I was in shock "MSRP is a good deal?" But now I know. Gas is $4.50 a gallon. Good Burritos are $9-$10.00
Value of my home up 300k. etc etc. Its bullshit. But its real bull shit.
Till all this starts to tumble. Till then, just do the best you can.

The cover you are mentioning is called Smart driver. That is one of the products finance offer, we do not force that to our customers either is completely optional.

Not confused in the least. If i couldn't find a dealer that i was able to buy under msrp, its very simple if i truly needed a vehicle i would buy something else that was. Its not a means of life, or death for me to have a tacoma. People need to learn to have some self-control.

Guess you didn't get the memo. Chip shortage, new car shortage.
Covid BS scam. All put us here. This issue is not isolated to Tacoma's,
Toyotas's etc. Hop off the high horse for a minute and become educated as to what's actually going on.
    Then get back to us.

So, just find a decent beater to use till these manufactures get their chit together. No ones got a gun to your head saying you have to buy something new.

Was looking online at Boch toyota in ma. had for inventory. They have a large mess of tacoma's...no shortage there. I'd bet you could snag one for less than msrp.

Are you aware dealers are not trading inventory? 2 miles away or 2000?

Maybe you are lucky and in an isolated pocket or something but around here, cars, gas, food, lumber all have inflated exponentially.
