3rd Brake Light Safety Recall?

Yeah, my 2019 DCLB is included per the Toyota site. Dealership just called me this AM to try to schedule. Said it'll take 3-4 hours. Crap.

 

Wow, 3-4 hours! Are you leaking now? I can’t imagine it taking that long to just seal and attach a trim piece.

 

Heck I wish 3-4hrs. Mines been at dealerahip since yesterday and just got call won'tbe done today, waiting on district Toyota rep to determine fix...

 

I asked my advisor what this involved and he had no clue. The paperwork said something like inspect headliner and install exterior gasket. It looks like my headliner may have been pulled because the corners seem to be uneven. I also had my fuel pump recall completed. They had my truck for 8 hours.

 

Soooo conflicted over this one.

• I haven’t had the leak
• I’m on the list
• The fix is a bit uglier
• Sometimes fixing a non problem causes a problem
• I have the MESO interior rack and that’ll have to come down; it’s not an easy beotch to put back in
• More time in the shop; although I would schedule it with other work I’m planning on having done

 

I’m right there with you, as I said before I’ll probably wait a while until they’ve had some practice.

 

I will try this let me know if it works. It is the technical bulletin for the repairs.

 

Well, it looks like if you’re leak free, then it’s a straight outside job that can probably complete in 30 minutes with an experienced installer. No need to remove my interior rack.

 

More like a covered up silicone bead. The silicone is doing the sealing, the trim ring is to cover up the sloppy job the "tech" does applying the silicone.

I can only imagine the poor application for owners who have a tonneau cover, lumber or roof rack on their truck as the technician tries to apply the silicone standing on a bucket reaching in as far as he can from the side of the truck.

 

I would have to agree. Just clean it and add the seal kit from the looks of it.

 

I’d almost prefer to spend the $50 and buy the kit myself. But kit probably runs $250. Lol.

 

A quick follow-up. I spoke with my local dealer. Service guy told me they have yet to see one that has leaked. (I'm in SoCal). Sounds like the fix is fairly straightforward if there's no leaking discovered. I suspect 3-4 hours estimate includes a lot of margin.

 

Just had mine done. 3 hours, to clean headliner, small leak that hadn’t made it through all the way, sealed, and exterior gasket.

My 18 is on the recall list. They are doing it next week. My dealer was the one that actually told me about a week or two ago when they did alignment

 

Just went through the car wash and went to vacuum right after. Saw water on the back passenger side. I wasn't having issues before but I am now...joy!

 

This was after you had the service done?

 

Well that tears it. Campaigne runs till 2025.
I think I'll wait a while.
