My Chevy (first loan I had) I talked to my credit union first, at the time Telephone Workers (now Liberty Bay). I mentioned it to the salesman and he said "I'll see what I can do but I usually can't beat them" and he couldn't.

The Tacoma (second loan) I already knew what I could get from my place. The salesman told me he ran my credit and I figured I'll let him pitch me, then drop that on him. He wrapped up by saying "and you'll get the 0.9% here guaranteed"..OK I'm keeping my mouth shut about the credit union, where do I sign?

Leasing can make sense. My friend leases, she lives with her daughter and is the only car in the house so she needs max reliability and doesn't have another vehicle in her house (like my wife and I do).

My mom did one but she drives less than 5K a year..just needed something with AWD in a hurry

Im going to see what they come back to me with for an APR and go from there. If I can get 1.9% or better then i might try and get a little more on the trade or something. They already took 1k off the price

Yea I'm looking at getting new, the used market is so high that i might as well buy new right now

Yea i have the numbers of AAA and my bank in my head and just waiting to hear back abiut numbers at this point

What's the motor in the new Tundra? Did they put something more fuel efficient in it?

@guitarjamman hit the nail on the head, quick, easy secure transport that doesn’t damage the bike and doesn’t require you to take the front tire off. If you have an open bed, it’s a great way to transport bikes.

@tacobell007 that is what all the blogs are saying, the new LC engine is going in it. Not sure how old it is though in design, do you know if they've used it in other models?

Hey! I thought about getting one of those.

The whole mini truck/van group is being revoked. Maine isn't sure why, and gave half ass answers. I guess they don't qualify because of some wording in some law, there was an article on the Pulitzer winning site jalopnik.com a few weeks ago.

I want. I’ve been looking at kei trucks and Mazda Miatas. And Jeep wranglers. And hummers. And Mazda hatchbacks.

whaaaaaat. That has been the grip was get it like +20 years so you don’t need to emissions test it. Shenanigans. Wtf Maine. I’ve seen what you let pass inspection and drive on the roads up there. Sounds like some senators neighbor he’s had a feud with bought one.

I think some of the minis are badass... This one ehhh. Bed seems unusable, rear sliding doors means nothing hanging over in the bed if you do use it. Great alternative to a golf cart tho. And gonna need to be double jointed to work on the engine

Echoing what everyone else said. I never actually got pre-approved, but I knew what AAA's rate was (they're usually one of the best around) and made them match it. As others have said, calculate out the payment based on price, rate and term. Once you know where you stand with that, your rate and term are locked, so all you care about is price, payment becomes irrelevant. Estimate $600 for doc fees, $150ish to get it on the road and then the rest is just truck cost and sales tax delta (if you're trading) and downpayment. I remember getting into it with a salesman once when he kept harping on monthly payment. I said I was shopping based on total out the door pricing. He's like, but your monthly payment, and I said buying to a monthly payment is irrelevant because with enough term you could sell me anything in your facility for $300 a month, the payment is a function of out the door, term and rate. The finance guy kept doing mental math on me to try and trip me up. I had a loan calculator open on my phone the entire time to check the math.

Note #2...CHECK THEIR MATH. I've had two times where the math was very wrong in their favor. One was using the wrong agreed price to calculate sales tax and some other items. The second time was delaying the first payment by a year and backloading interest or something.

Note #3. If you have any sort of a downpayment, credit card it, because free rewards points is always awesome. The cult of Dave Ramsey would explode for saying that, but it's true.

My co-worker bought a Focus ST a few years back and all of the good rebates and incentives (not applicable here) were using Ford Credit. So he paid the required 2 months or whatever at the crazy rate and then immediately refinanced.

I had a sleazy dealer pull a 75 month loan on me when I asked for 72 to "meet my rate". I waited 3 months and refinanced down to a 60 via AAA and paid a chunk towards it to drop the payment way down.
