I am using OBD Fusion and have purchased the Tacoma add-ons. I have "lock up status" added and see it in 4 sport mode but am also seeing it in 5 and 6 in drive mode. I am confused about the 5 and 6 gear lock up. From my understanding, that is not possible. Ant thoughts?

What the hell are you talking about? Doors? Tires? ABS? Torque converter? Gotta do a better job at splaining there Ricky.

I believe that is torque converter. It will unlock or lock depending on load on any gear. Think it is a zero or 1

Torque converter. Never heard of lock up status for doors, tires, or abs. But I obviously don't know as much as you do.

Sounds like you are talking about the torque converter lock up status. It locks up in any gear but not when you are accelerating and decelerating a lot, conditions like city driving. Higher constant speeds like when you get into 4, 5, 6 gear it is pretty quick to try to lock up the torque converter for efficiency.

Torque converters will lock up whenever the computer wants them to - my Grand Cherokee can lockup in any gear.

Thanks for that reply. So you get the benefit of lower transmission temps when locked up in 5 and 6? I was under the evidently mistakes impression that it would only lock up in 4th at 1:1. Must be something else going on in there I don't know about or understand. Thanks again.

Here's the full lockup schedule; you need to be in S3 to deactivate it.

Here is the flex lockup(slip control) schedule.

I think it might be what you think the 1:1 actually is.
It's, engine output rpm :transmission input rpm

The gears don't give a shit how fast the input shaft is/isn't spinning.

Put the transmission in "D" and press the gas pedal. The truck will move forward. This is really all that matters.

Sounds like good advice if you are towing.

Manual suggests sport mode 4th gear when towing. So yes. I was under the impression that would keep it ( at speed) locked up for lower transmission temps. Just confused about the apparent ability to lock up in 5th and 6th. Maybe can't hold it when towing? That is the crux of my question.

I dont know if this is just untrue or doesn't apply to all vehicles but I do know for sure that on the 16's and 17's the TC stays locked in 6th no matter what once you're above about 1250 RPM in that gear, if you could lock in 6th it would never unlock above 53MPH/1250 RPM. 5th gear is actually set to lock at a higher speed than 5th and also wont unlock once its above 58 MPH. Also with the stock logic they do not lock in 3rd gear at all. Only part lock.
