True! Lead time then was roughly 4 months. Except that I announced my retirement mid-February 2020. 4 weeks later, I was regretting it. It all worked out though

Got my first memento from our trip. I parked 15’ away from an intersection, rules say you must be 30’ - no yellow paint on the curbs here. Supposed to pay 1,300 kroner/$150 - sure!

Time for us to leave what we all think of as Europe and head north into some more wild country! I’m excited!

Aaaaannnddddd…… the ever present graffiti. SMH.

I understand it can be a true art form, but keep it where it’s wanted.

i think the local government encouraged people to do their “thing” there. Whether that’s enabling or enlightening that’s a matter of perspective.

I guess it’s better than bubble gum alley in San Luis Obispo. Its absolutely gross

We have a bubblegum tree here at six flags. Well, at least 25 years ago we did.

I just found this post and went through your blog, and it's definitely got me sold on trying to bring my Tacoma over to Belgium if I get stationed out there in the future!

Definitely do it. Belgium is underrated. Great beer, pastries, and the chocolate! Camping there is nearly all like going to a KOA, complete with the swimming pool. Once away from the base, just be prepared for people to stare at the truck, especially when seeing the plate.

    And thanks for serving!

Lofoten islands, northern Norway. Definitely a contender for the most scenic spots in Norway! Salt water is gin clear with 2' fish.

So who would think that we would get seriously stuck in Finland?

    3DFCD6D9-D51E-495A-BE0D-DF2C361E60A7.jpg

Like Sweden, most of Finland is quite flat and therefore not well drained. Something 20% of Finland is bottomless peat bogs. I found one in the middle of the road.

    805116D6-EFDF-453E-BEEA-1980811DBD8C.jpg

I saw it coming and didn’t give enough gas to climb out. All that locking in both diffs did was bury the one side to the top of the tire in 30 seconds.

Put the winch to its first test and it pulled us right out after 10 minutes of setup.

Was not thrilled with using a 9” tree but it held.

Mud terrain tires would have been just as useless.

That's the catch with lockers in the soft stuff. They'll either get you out if there's something to grab or dig one hell of a hole!

I'm curious, how many kilometers/miles on the truck so far?

Definitely lucky there were trees around but the southern 3/4s of Finland is covered with them.

I was thinking what I would otherwise had to have done was put the high lift jack on one Max trax, jack the rear tire up and put the three remaining Max tracks under the right side as the left side was fine. Once the right side broke through the crust that peat was bottomless. Stepping across the mossy ditch I sank to my knees in low 40 water, completely hidden, complete surprise

So far it has 76,000 kms/47,000 miles and doing great.

BTW, my wife did an amusing post on getting stuck on our 2roguewanderers Instagram account if interested

Thanks Jesse! I'm doing this to encourage people to get out and have fun. The hardest and scariest part is pulling the trigger, once out the fun really begins.
