Thanks for all the input fellas! Glad I could change the course of discussion for the day! The wife gave me permission to buy this PTO splitter so I think I'm going to jump on it. I'll post a pic and reviews if and when I grab it.

I have a couple of them and they seem accurate to me. Showed me an issue Kawasakis have with over revving. Mine and many run 4100RPMs. Thats what it showed me and my Kohlers read 3100-3150.

Yes, for adding a viewing window to your engine block. Can be a bit messy. YMMV.

Kohler. No issues so far. bit of a pain to start when it sits for months.

This function is easy to add to most engines. Replace the single terminal oil pressure light sending unit with one with 3 terminals.

The two additional terminals are a normally open switch that closes with oil pressure.

They were commonly installed on cars with an electric heated choke. The choke terminal of the sending unit was only powered when the engine had oil pressure, this prevented the choke from opening (and the engine not wanting to start) if the key was left in the on position with the engine not running.

Some GM cars of the early 80's had a warning light labeled "oil/choke" instead of just "oil".

Note for younger readers: These were carburetor equipped cars -- back in the dark ages before fuel injection.

Tractor PTO means less small engines I have to maintain and repair.
Plus, I am not afraid of putting hours on my little kubota bx.

I went ahead and purchased the PTO powered wood splitter for $400 and I could not be more happy! This thing seriously kicks butt. The guy I bought it from is a retired machinist and he built this thing himself 15 or so years ago. It's incredibly simple so should anything ever go wrong with it I'll be able to fix it myself no problem.

The sun was down low when I was trying to take a picture so please forgive me for the bad lighting

My tractor has a two speed PTO - 540 and 1000 rpm so I can just set the PTO speed on high and let the tractor pretty much just idle while I run this thing.

There is an inline oil filter on the backside that you can't see in the picture and the filter that is on top of the hydraulic oil tank in the picture here just works as a vented cap that flies can't get into. The dude was clever.

New around here and just sharing the day that I brought home my upgrade from the little power house Kubota to the mean Green machine. Just needed more horse power, larger bucket but wish the green machine had hydrostatic. John Deere 4610 with just under 500 hours, but now had about 550 hours.
