Help with lift

I know there are 100's of other threads that explain a lot of this and I have read a lot of them but I just want to see if you guys can help me with my particular setup.

I've got a 2018 Tacoma SR5 4WD, everything is stock, looking to get about 2" of lift. I currently have the stock 245/75/16 tires but just purchased 265/75/16 and will be having them installed sometime this week. After purchasing a 3" front and 2" rear spacer lift i decided against it nd am now wanting to do Bilstein 5100's all around and for now use the stock coils. I also like the factory rake, should I get a rear spacer? I guess some of my concerns are
With stock wheels (I believe -25 offset) will I need wheel spacers?
Will I need new UCA's?
Will I need a diff drop?

Anything else or any other problems you guys can think of to help me out, Much appreciated. Thanks in advance

 

My understanding is you only need new UCAs if you go over 2" of lift. The 5100s have I think 4 settings. with the last 2 I think being 1.5" and 2". So technically even at the 2" setting, you shouldn't need UCAs, but many recommend them just in case. At the 1.5" setting you should be OK.

If you want the factory rake you need to look into an Add a Leaf or a whole new leaf pack solution, or a block spacer. I am still learning the leaf pack side of it, so what I write is all I can advise on.

For the 265/75/16 tires, my understanding is those should be fine without spacers. Others can chime in.

 

You don’t need spacers, UCA, or diff drop if you’re only lifting 2”. I’m running the exact same setup on my SR as OP mentioned and I have no problems.

 

UCAs for mid travel suspension are usually replaced to accommodate bigger tires, I replaced my UCAs to get caster, safely, to fit 285/70/17. This was pre alignment and you can see there is not much space from cab to tire, after alignment I didnt rub at all but I wanted some mudflaps back on to protect paint so I will have to heat up fender flare and flaps to fix minor rubbing. Also drive way is at an angle, truck is close to level with a little rear rake.

 

Did you notice any difference with the slightly bigger tires in regards to acceleration/braking/MPG?

I had been considering 33" skinnys but the more I read about the tradeoffs I am thinking of just getting more aggressive stock size tires or the 265/75/16s so the diameter change is not as drastic.

 

Basically all of the 255/85/16 and most of the 285/75/16 tires available are e-rated and weigh a lot more than stock tires. I don't feel it a lot in the acceleration, but the mpg's tell a different story. Braking feels more sluggish and makes me more cautious on the highway

So I’m pretty dead set on the 5100’s all around, just trying to decide between an AAL or 1 1/2” or 2” rear spacer. Was also looking at the ready lift rear leaf that is supposed to be 1 1/2”.

Which clip slot are you using in the front for the Bilstein?

 

Do the aal, it will fix some of the spring sag that is always there.

 

I switched from the stock 245 tires to 265/75/r16. Acceleration and mpg has definitely gone down a bit. Averaging about 16 mpg in city, use to get about 17-18mpg with the smaller wheels. I got the SL rated tires since I rarely off-road which also cuts down some tire weight.

 

I believe I’m using the 2” slot which is the second slot from the top. Not sure cause my cousin installed it for me.

 

Smart move not using the spacer lift Kerry.

If you want to keep the rake You should set the front 5100's for 1" and add a 1" rear block or AAL. If you go 2" in front, it will be level (you lose your rake).

No need for wheel spacers, a new UCA, nor diff drop.

2/1" Bilstein Lift looks great.

 

@Tocamo is the stock rake a 2" difference between front and rear? I was not sure if it was 1" or 2". And do you know if that is with gas tank full or empty?

 

A 1" lift in front makes the Taco level. (like the PRO Taco). I've never noticed a full tank of gas lowering the rear end. Even my steel rear bumper didnt make the rear sag.

A 2/1 lift is Level
A 3/2 lift is level, etc.....

So with the 1 1/2” - 2” of lift from the aal in the rear, are the 5100s alright? Will I have to worry about them over extending or any other problems?

Before after Finally got around to putting the 5100’s on this last weekend. Everything went really well. Set the front clip on the forth position up with stick springs and added the readylift AAL in the rear. I’m the very near future going to be putting the Eibach pro truck springs on the front. Overall gave me right at 2” of lift all around.

Very pleased with the lift. Now just waiting for the new tires to come in. Went with the Falken Wildpeak AT3 in a 265/75/16.

Thanks, will do. The picture on the bottom was the before and the one up top was the after. One of my friends did my truck looks like it skipped leg day with the lift and the factory tires. Thought that was pretty funny.
