Old mother Hubbard went to the cupboard to get her poor dog a bone. But when she bent over, Rover took over, and gave her a bone of his own.

Just for giggles, thought I'd share a couple picture I just took from my front and back doors of the thick fire smoke at our house these last few days.

Caldor Fire in El Dorado County, CA. Currently >70K acres, 0% contained. About 20 miles from my house, still slowly moving northeast, which is away from our place.

Front yard, you can see the haze in the air.

Same street, looking in the other direction.

And the back yard... with the Sun trying to shine through it all.

Never too old to have an OF and bring in that dough. It's all about how you market yourself and who your target audience is

    :pout:

I made someone turn off the news this morning. I have so many old coworkers and friends evacuated from both fires. I don't know anyone who has personally lost a home yet, but I have started seeing a few being shared around.

And before we moved our fire coverage was about $3k a year.... Bet that's a very low number after this fire season. (That is not full homeowners either, that was just the fire policy).

a LOT of people close to us, including my in-laws who live 5 miles away, had their fire insurance cancelled by their carriers within the last 2 years. Some even after 30+ years of same insurance company.... Many areas are classed as "High Fire Danger", including my in-laws. Our house is "Moderate", so we haven't been cancelled (((yet :fingerscrossed:))). CA State has a fire policy available, but I believe I heard it was in the $5K - $6K/year range... just for the fire coverage.

    Yes.

I'm not sure if that is also a reason? Definitely so they can get the tongues deep into the crevices when foraging.

Yes, our policy was cancelled when the Camp fire happened and the original insurer filled for insolvency. We had to 30 days to scramble for insurance and we're forced into the CA "Fair Plan" for our fire coverage and then a separate normal policy. In total it was around $6k but I know ours wasn't as bad as some.

The bad thing is they WILL send out an inspector at some point and if you've got stuff to do, they'll give you a list and cancellation threats. Our 80 year old neighbors who built their house over 35 years earlier were being forced to put on a new roof. Not only was it not that old to begin with but they also had a brick house. Thankfully ours was concrete shingles but we were afraid of getting notice to upgrade whatever at any point in time.
