I have recently purchased a 2018 TRD with the 3.5. The person that owned it before me put a Flowmaster muffler on it and dualled it from the muffler back. I am considering changing the air box/filter. Just trying to get some suggestions on if it’s good or bad and what brand everybody uses.

Save your money and time and just keep the OEM. Aftermarket will just gain you hassle and maybe some rumble!

Changing to a k&n cold air intake system only worked after i replaced my oem rotted exhaust system with a complete flowmaster system starting with new flowmaster cats, and dual exhaust for my 4.7 tundra.

Leave the OEM air box - it's shared with the V8 Tundra and flows well enough for a 5.7L. Change to the HPS intake tube to delete the resonator and gain some induction sound.

    A bunch of junk
I swapped to a S and D out of curiosity.
I suppose my fuel economy is only slightly better (tune soon happening)
I will note I no longer can hear the rear diff whine so thats a win. It also looks cool and is easy to see if its clean (clear lid)

That is the best way, IMHO.

But on the 5.7l thing, I had a look at my friend's 2009 Tundra and it is nothing like ours. Maybe the same total volume but it was shallower and appeared longer and wider? Quite possibly it is different on newer ones?

I was really looking at that intake hose kit posted above until I saw the price. Almost $200 for a piece of hose and two clamps? How hard would it be to make one similar?

That's generally the deal for silicone. I can't remember, but I think both ends are different diameters and there is the EGR nipple. Folks have kludged together one from a straight section and some couplers.

Compared to anything else, it is the least expensive option even when you include the TRD intake accelerator that can be purchased separately.

If you don't mind waiting a while, sometimes deals can be found on the HPS tube. I got mine as an Amazon open box deal.

Isn't the PN on the filter the same?

Yes it is. When I bought the trd filter, it said 5.7 tundra/sequoia on the box.

If so, then my friend's has way less volume than ours.

How the Helmholtz resonator effects come into play with a V8 versus V6, I have no idea.

I like the HPS design vs the K&N hard tube because it eliminates the need for separate hump couplers. The band clamps included in the HPS kit are also much nicer.

I'm only half joking. I looked it up briefly when looking into exhaust resonators.
