My truck was a 2008 Sport DCLB.
The clock spring part # 84306-0E010
    Ordered from
    discountpartsmonster.com,
As I recall, the audio controls were a separate part which plug into the clock spring

There are two different configurations of Spiral Cable.

One is plain without the wiring for the audio controls.
next is one that does have the internal wiring for audio controls.

My cruise control quit working and I changed out my cruise control switch, brake light switch, and now clock spring. My horn works so I ordered a clock spring for my 2005 w/o audio controls from rockauto.com part #525405. When it came in I installed it and that's when I noticed it had an extra plug-in, I'm guessing it was for audio controls...must have been boxed wrong...I had to have truck next day so I installed it anyways. My question is does it matter on the clock ring if I installed the one with audio controls instead of the one without? Could that be why my cruise control isn't working? I'm lost on what to do any help is appreciated.

My horn doesn't work, but all my other controls work. Which one do I need?

I've read that there are only 2 types of clock springs/spiral cable to order-1 w/audio controls on steering wheel and other 1 w/o audio controls. My question was if the 1 w/audio controls would still work for the other as far as the rest of the switches go since I don't have audio controls on steering wheel. I received wrong part in box from Rockauto.com.

I'm in the middle of my own clock spring tragedy. My Tacoma does not have steering wheel controls, and should need a 525401 which I ordered from Rock Auto. That part cross references to the original Toyota part number of 83406-04080. What I got in the box marked 525401, was the part for a Tacoma with steering wheel control buttons. Which should be a 525405(Toyota 83406-48030). I've been told that the part will work in my Tacoma, but I can't find any confirmation of that anywhere, and that's what I'd get if I ordered from Toyota. I'm a bit leery of putting it in my truck.

Just call a parts counter at a dealer with your vin - they’ll have the part number.

Edit: If you remove the old one just hold them next to each other - as long as the connectors look similar and number of wires are identical you should be good.

They’re not. I’ve done this before, using an SKP SK525401 from Rock Auto, and I got the right part. I’ve now ordered 3 SK525401s(2 from Rock Auto and 1 from Parts Geek) and all three have come in box marked 525401, but have been 525405. Very obvious and very visible difference.
Then I get told today that the 525405 will work, but I can’t confirm that anywhere.

What’s different about the new vs. original?

Did you read the link I posted .
That should show you that everything will function .
He took a clock spring with no steering wheel controls out and put a clock spring with steering wheel controls in place . It works . Many members have done this

Yeah that’s what I was trying to get @Sailormilan2 to assess - more wires won’t hurt you as long as the connectors are the same and the wires in the new one correspond to the terminals in the connectors from your old one.

I've been going through this for over a week and this is the first time anyone has said this would work. None of the suppliers have said a word. I'm not doubting you, just don't want the airbag to go "puff". I don't think too many of us take a part the doesn't look right and plug it in to see if it works, without some kind of confirmation.

If your interior harness and steering wheel don’t have any wires in the connectors where the new clock spring’s extra wires are, then the extra wires won’t connect to anything and the existing wires won’t know they’re there.

Thanks everybody that answered my question too. Now I have to figure out why my cruise still doesn't work with everything being new...

Have you replaced your Cruise control “stalk”? It’s a simple job.
