Yep. It's akin to searches in the Sierra. You send 1000's of people to look for someone who is most likely deceased. The terrain is vast and rugged. You even have a general location of the victim. 10000's of man hours are put in and no body is found. Years or decades later someone accidentally hikes by the remains.

Now, imagine that in an area 100 times larger with a "victim" that is alive and actively hiding from the searchers. No fucking chance.

 

Speaking of the Sierras, more than a few people get lost just in the ski resorts every year. Go out of bounds, don't tell anyone and...poof. Shit goes down and there isn't anyone coming for hours and that's IF they get word, you have RECCO, and they know a general area.

Triggered an avalanche and it swept him to the bottom and buried him underneath who knows how many feet of snow. Didn't find him till the next day and he was within throwing distance of the road and lifts
