Although not the original design intent for the CHMSL, with todays distracted drivers I will take all the visibility and lighting I can get.

The benefit to a running light up high would be when people are blocking their tail lights and aren't following the law by extending them behind their towed/hitched object(s). The worst example I have seen recently was a vehicle with two bikes on a hitch rack and a nylon cover on the bikes. Zero lights were visible on the rear of the vehicle except with almost directly next to them.

As long as the contrast (brightness difference) between "running" and braking is great enough, it should be fine.

 

It fits in my garage! I’ve got a new set of F5s in the corner and my goal was to make the jump from 33s to 35s. I’m not sure if it’ll fit with cross bars on the camper and 35s.

 

I should have expected this but the windows on the camper are basically impossible to see through from the cab. I’ll have to find an electronic rear view mirror solution. I have a front and rear anytime camera setup which work great for parking but I’d like to be able to utilize the rearview mirror to have a better view while driving.

 

You'll get used to it. My 1st gen came with a commercial ARE shell with a similarly sized (small) rear window in the rear door and no side windows. It didn't take long for me to pretty much not use the rear view mirror and be aware of my surroundings as well as adjust my side mirrors better. I didn't have cameras on this truck.

My 2nd gen, I keep the rear window of OTHER_BRAND_WEDGE_CAMPER covered with Reflectix and only have a backup camera.

 

I can confirm, it's the way that both windows are tinted or treated. It's impossible to see through unless you have your rear hatch open. Otherwise it's reflective like a mirror

so i chatted with Peter, and it sounds like if we wanted to get the shitco more dialed you are able to throw a grommet into that black material on the flap he said that should be more than durable enough to support a grommet for awning poles. i havent committed to the brackets yet simply because the cost. kind of hard to wrap my head around the price

you can add a new mount to fully replace so it’s not just strapped on. Sometimes it’s on Amazon but I got it from Ali express

Works great at night. Objects are closer than they appear up close for sure but great front and rear coverage.
I need to hook my stock back up for low back up work.

 

Question: Has anyone installed an awning on the back, and if so what did you choose? I like the idea of an awning on the back because I basically want some shade and possibly some bug netting in that area, so I can cook and hang out with the rear of the camper open. I don't want a 270 or a side awning because I often perch in small off-road areas where there might not be room to deploy, and like I said I just want a little extra room out the back. I've seen some 4 ft. and some 1.4 meter awnings, but none of them seem to have "rooms" or bug netting options, and I'm asking if anyone here has any experience or preference. Thanks.

 

Are you looking for a small one that you can add netting or a room?

 

Yes. One that will fit across the back, which is about 4.5 ft., and which has the option of adding netting at least.

Yeah, I think I’m going to get something like the FrontRunner 1.4 meter (4ft 5in) and add my own netting. Just wondered if anyone had any experience.

 

CVT makes a 55 inch and screen room. Their stuff is 20% off right now. I have no experience with it though.

 

For those of u making a wood platform for the bottom, are u using 4x8 stock? The bed measures roughly 51” at the widest but I’m finding the hardest time looking for a 5x10 sheet.
