Has anyone tried SEAFOAM rinse in the crankcase before the oil change to clean out the deposits, sticky valves..??
I have done it in my CAMRY planning to do it in Taco next time while oilchange.

You probably had nasty gunky rings and the seafoam cleared it up causing them to leak.

Mr.Tacoma why do you want to do this? Have you been changing your oil like you should? Using good gas? What are you hoping to accomplish by using Seafoam?

I've only used it in the gas tank..."feels" (read: subjective) peppier afterwards.

use it all the time on old junk. Shouldn't be seeing it in a 2005+ yet.. but I suppose its possible. My old 1984 celica seemed to have unending sludge back in the mid 90s.

Only stuff I have ever used to put in the tank to help with sticking valves is BG products 44K. We would have cars with CEL (check engine light) and multiple misfires caused by sticking valves, after a can of that, they never had a problem afterward, (also running the recommended octane from good stations helps it not come back) But I am an ASE certified tech, so I wouldn't BS you guys.

I have seen something else be used for the Crankcase for the inside of engines, but not sure I should go into that here.

Not for anything but what is it with the seafoam. If your changing your oil regular and using your truck on a weekly basis (another words its not sitting around for a year without being started) why the f*&k would you even bother with that shit. Just a fad that alot of people fall into. And if your truck has made it to extreemely high milage 150k+ why screw with it.

Can't find Seafoam? Make your own: (according to the WHMIS sheet)
    -naptha (from your camp stove)
    -kerosene (from the camping heater)
-isopropyl alchohol (better quality gas line antifreeze or 99% from Walmart etc.)

Start with a ratio of 1/3 for each ingredient and adjust as necessary.

I Know it does great deal of a job, i hav used it on 2 diff motorcycles..1985 &1986 Yamaha Maxim X..it turned the sluggish rpms to very responsive tacometers..also gear shift has been dramatically improved. My tacoma is 2006 & has 117..my theory is as long as we dont drive around (just idle for 5 or 10min without load)it shouldnt do any harm!! Here is a PDF that explains...

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
You will still develop a carbon build up in the intake at regular oil change intervals. And you will still develop some sludge on a regular interval oil change.

I use synthetic oil only in all my vehicles and once a month I put a litre of lucas gas treatment in my tank. Also I use only sunoco 93 octane which has cleaners in it. None of my vehicles have ever had any significant buildups of carbon or sludge that would effect performance or longevity.

Carbon build up on the top end is going to happen. There is always the old Italian Tune up to help with that. Red line 'er at least once a week!.... A good fuel additive every once in a while will help this as well as not using cheap or old fuel.

Sludge on the other hand can be prevented with regular Dino oil changes. I had an old VW w/300K+ miles, in town mostly, and regular dino oil changes. I pulled the pan to replace the oil pump at 250K and no sludge just a nice golden color. If you keep it clean it will stay clean. Under the valve cover looked just as nice.

My understanding is that Syn oil will not sludge like the Dino. It can be run at higher temps with out viscosity breakdown. I run Syn in all my vehicles and have never had a sludge problem.

Every engine I've pulled apart ,that I maintained, was as clean as could be inside. Motorcycle engines are especially hard on oil because of the shearing effect of the transmission, the particle from the wet clutch and blow-by that get into the oil. I have never had sludge in them as well.

Most oil additives that you pour in may help. Some people use kerosene other us ATF others us that Murphy's Mystery oil stuff or as here SeaFoam. Most oils already have the cleaning additives in them already. Just take normal care of it and it will be fine. save your money for other upgrades.

Just my opinions and techniques, that have worked for me for the past 30+ years.

key words in my initial reply. (no SIGNIFICANT deposits to effect performance ). If you run premium fuel (which has cleaners in it) and use syntho oil at proper intervals along with a fuel additive like lucas these will be minimal. Too minimal to even be concerned with,. Dont have to tear them down one of my vehicles has over 300k and my son is still using it. runs fine and doesnt burn any oil. Replaced the oil pan gasket and there was no significant sludge to speak of.
