Anyone who uses an automated carwash regularly and says their paint isn't being damaged just isn't looking close enough or simply ignoring the damage.

    BINGO !

I find it interesting how some claim they have such a deal at $20 a month for unlimited washes, umm do they not tip? If not do you think the car wash employees don't remember you and your truck especially if you go 2-3 time a week? They will get their "tip" one way or another. If you do tip then you are not getting car washes for $20 a month.

Also what about the wasted time sitting/standing around the car wash waiting for your truck to be finished? I can hand wash my truck in the cool evening hours with a cold beer a few feet away.

And lastly, don't car washes charge extra for trucks? Where I live they do. Every car wash has a sign that says trucks, vans, SUV's, over-sized vehicles are extra. Heck even the coupons they mail you have that exception in the fine print.

Anyway we each do what is best for our situation so if it works for you, continue on.

Hand wash every month. Never in an automated car wash. Seen those rip off a side mirror.

I've had my Taco a month and hand washed it twice in the front yard. If I get it muddy I'll go to one of the self serve car washes to use their power washer for a rinse but that's it.

This is the first and probably only brand new vehicle I'll ever have. I plan on taking care of it.

The amazing thing i've found out with having a professional ceramic glass coat job is when the truck gets really muddy, or a lot of bird crap on it. I can just hose it off, or wait for rain to get a super clean car wash job. If i just hosed off the old tundra i had, you'd still see a coating of dirt residue all over the truck after it dried.

I've been here a few years and never experienced the monsoon, the last few years were more like a non-soon ...

I made no mistake when I said divisive. This forum has a tendency to spawn disunity over the slightest differences—this thread is an example of that. Car washing, whether by hand or automatic wash, is a choice that depends on preference.

This last sentence is very true I opine. I myself will never use an auto after a bad experience as a kid when my mom got hers done.

Only exception I've made is about 10 years ago some jerk threw an egg at my truck and it was winter, so I was pretty much forced..went to a local place that is DIY and just used the sprayer

I don't try to convince myself that those automatic car wash machines are not detrimental to the "health" of my paint job. I just don't care.

99% wash at home, but use one of those drive in sprayer car washes after off-roading or driving a thousand miles. I have an antenna that won't allow me inside any automatic car washes even if I wanted to go.

My black truck is 6 years old this October. I bought the $20/month unlimited washes plan when I bought the truck. I use it like a truck. It gets muddy every weekend at my hunting camp and I run through that wash at least once a week, usually 2-3 times a week (rains a lot in Louisiana). Looks good to me and that is all that matters.
I think having a garage that keeps it out of the sun most of the time is the best defense for my paint job. It is still shiny and looks beautiful.
I have never hand washed my truck. $20 a month and unlimited washes= a great deal for me.

When I took delivery of my 2021 TRD OR DCSB last December 11th, I drove it directly from the dealer to the shop to have it ceramic coated and clear bra applied. The picture in my profile is at the ceramic shop. I hand wash it on weekends with meguiar’s gold class car soap and then dry it with a leaf blower without touching it. I am thinking of going to a foam cannon. Can anyone opine about those?

Touchless premium carwash at least every 2 weeks. If you have time to handwash good on you.

Can I ask about which leaf blower you use? I have the dewalt xr 20v and it’s ok. It does 80 percent of the job. Wish it had more power

Foam canon? As far as I can tell from all the YouTube detailers I watch….it’s not needed.
Useful when you have a bunch of bugs or tree sap. You foam it and let it sit. Makes it softer to remove.

Nothing wrong with that. I lease SUV’s for my business, and I have always used car wash places for those. It’s psychological, since I don’t own it, I don’t really care about the paint long term. And the swirl marks didn’t bother me because it just needed to look ‘good enough’
My Taco I own outright and take more pride in it
