Finally somewhat getting back to normal. I remember buying those for about $35, $40 isn’t bad at all.

Yup. Which is why I was shocked at the $50 for the 45 yesterday.

5.56 is still averaging 70 cents/round... no thanks.

I just ordered 400 rounds of brass case 168gr 7.62 Nato for $0.59 a round. I'm pretty ok with that.

You can find it online for less, but unless you're buying a good amount the shipping kills it usually. The local places around me are still at about .70 though.

From what I am to understand there is a copper shortage now due to several issues. I have heard ammo production is going to slow down again

    Just passing along info

I wouldn't pass on ammo I need because I'm hoping for 2019 price points in the next year or so

I've said it before and I'll say it again though

People need to be buying mags

Buy multiples, buy mags for guns you plan to own, buy them now while they're reasonable and just store them away in a Rubbermaid tub

If you don't have ammo or you shoot regularly...buy as appropriate but mags are consumables too and as evidenced Friday...things can go into panic buying overnight

    This^^^

Personally for SHTF/battle handguns I’m sticking to the P320 or M&P platform, one of my carry guns is the P320 X compact so I have multiple 15rounders for that and a plethora of 17rounders that I can use in either the compact or full size, and for my M&P I have a plethora of 17 rounders.
I have a Tupperware in my closet with Pmags, Lancers, and my pistol mags in it, most are still sealed in packaging. And then I have my “everyday” mags that are on my Battle/range belt, on my plate carrier, and loose mags in ammo cans that get used also.

2 other things that I’ve been buying a box or so a week of is 50rd boxes of 9mm hollow points and boxes of 00 Buck, I never was much into shotguns but since I have multiple 12 gauges in both short (18.5” barrel) and long (26”-28” barrel) configurations it makes sense to have buckshot for them. Once slugs become available at our shop I’ll start buying those also.

Surplus and imported ammo has been the supporting ammo during this shortage now with imported ammo getting stopped is driving the factor in the increase others are raw supplies brass, powder, lead, copper and other metals and of course COVID. Then you have the rise in ammo scalpers, who are gaming the market and driving the cost.

Even more acutely, at the opportunists who are buying ammo in bulk and then selling it online at increased prices I have seen more hertters on GB than in Bass Pro and Cabela's. And then you add the rise in on line ammo sales we have a recipe for total disaster. Once customers realize that selling ammunition back to a local retailer is easy money, the next step is obvious: scour the internet and big box stores like Walmart to find ammunition for sale at normal pricing. The standard retail mark-ups are changing with the times “I have no problem with the free market doing what it does—supply and demand. ( I sold 2000 rounds of ball .380 ammo @ .70 cents and 1500 rounds @ .90 cents a round for defensive ammo) to my LGS all i had invested was about $850 bucks.

The rise in ammo scalping has been exacerbated by both panic buying and the incredible volume of gun sales, which has created new gun owners who need ammunition and who sometimes don’t know what they’re buying or how much it should cost is the BIGGEST issue we faced. As far as acquiring additional ammunition goes, always try to be a smart, educated shopper. Sign up for email/text notifications through legit online retailers.

I am so glad I listened to the old timers who have been through this before from the 70's through the 90's and I have bought ammo little by little each day, week month and yr....
