Just found this thread! Never would have thought...
I'm a Cajun from Iowa, LOL. My Daddy grew up in New Roads in Point Coupee Parish, LA. Moma was from N.O. Only lived in Louisiana for two summers while I was growing up back in the `70's, but learned to cook from all of my many aunts and uncles while I lived there. I make Crawfish Étouffée (my kids favorite), Chicken and andouille Gumbo (cant get good seafood here in the mid-west), Jambalaya, etc, etc.. Had grits and sunny-side-up eggs for breakfast this morning. Tabasco Chipotle sauce and a can of Tony's sit on the dining room table 24/7.

so my hometown took an absolute asswhipping by Ida.
eye came ashore at 150 mph+ right through my neighborhood.

but this past Saturday me and some friends through down some Jambalaya and white beans for the Electric Linemen working the area.

    336 plate lunches.
personally delivered down each of the 5 bayous in Terrebonne Parish to every bucket truck/lineman pickup we could find.

them dudes been working their asses off and deserved it.

My town probably won’t ever truly bounce back, but god damn she can pull together in a crises and lift each other’s spirits when she needs to.

    Also sucks because:

Grandmother on mom’s side house (she passed years ago and house was sold shortly after) took a beating. Probably won’t be repaired.

Grand parents on dad’s side (she still living and still owns house) is a total loss and needs to be bulldozed.

Best friend (grew up like brother’s) parent’s house is a total loss and need to be bulldozed

High School i attended is likely a total losss and will be bulldozed.

    i’ll be 43 next month.
I was here for Juan, Danny, Andrew, Katrina, Gustav, etc.

Ida is by FAR the worst i’ve ever seen.

Please keep this part of the state in your prayers.
    These people need it.

My house is livable and repairable.

a lot of people i know personally (and have known for a long time) are now homeless and have lost everything they’ve ever owned.

These are good people in this part of the world.
Even those who have nothing of their own anymore are bending over backwards to help others save what is salvageable.
