What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Extended cab? Extent of rust?

 

I attempted to get these ANZO taillights wired up correctly. Tested the drivers side and everything was functioning properly so I soldered both sides and plugged them in however when the passenger side was installed everything started acting funny so I have the stock passenger side and the ANZO on the drivers side for now.
It looks terrible but it's functional and that will have to do for the time being.

For now I need to track down the source of my CEL codes.
P0441
P0442
P0446

 

All are emissions, evap system related. Verify your gas cap is seated correctly.

That taillight looks good.

 

@Digiratus @m3bassman. I replaced my gas cap about a month or two ago.

 

When did the codes start? And did they all come at once?

Dam, I do good just keeping up with 1. must be nice to have multiple trucks to play with, but that could get quite expensive in the long run.

 

P0442 first showed up in March of this year and then came back in early June with a PO446 code. After that I replaced the fuel filter and gas cap (autozone gas cap) (O'Reillys fuel filter) and cleaned the codes.

In mid June I did the valve cover seals, spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, and both plenum gaskets all with OE parts from a local dealer.

 

I even tried putting a paper filter back under the hood instead of the K&N for a few weeks but had no changes

P0441 has only showed up the one time I believe and that was yesterday.

I've driven the truck about 2,000 miles since the CEL fist showed up

 

Replacing all that other stuff (valve cover seals, spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, plenum gaskets, paper filter, etc, etc.) is all good, but has nothing to do with your emission control systems.

I've seen several threads about these codes because the problem is complex. Sounds like you've got some reading to do.

Being a mechanic I run across good cars that die that people are just done throwing money at it. I buy them cheap, fix em and sell em

 

I looked for one with one of the brass filters. I really have no data to prove that they’re any better than any other design. But in my unprofessional opinion they work better.

 

Do you have any more info on what you are using?

It looks like the one I linked is using some sort of steel mesh media as its filter.

 

The 02 turned 260k today
