TechStream Ransomware

Heads up to all. I followed a link from here to get a copy of Techstream and Microsoft Windows Defender identified it as having the Gandcrab ransomware. Microsoft successfully isolated it.

The V14 DL is always reported as a virus. False flag. Which is why it is noted to turn off all a/v.

 

I just retried using whatever my current version of TS was, and it said I needed to update it, even with the WiFi off, u happen to have any beta on that particular problem?

 

Two reasons cracked programs will be flagged by AV:

1. AV programs are anti-piracy, thus will be flagged.
2. Viruses typically change code or parts of a program, which is what a lot of cracks do.

The better route is the V15 DL link, but then you have to find someone to send you an activation key, like paying to join the MHHAuto.com forum.

The best method is paying $65 to get 2day access to TIS, which will also get you an activated version of TechStream. I have no idea how long that license is good for.


In the end, thousands of folks have used that V14 download. Other than rando virus warnings, no other bad effects have been noted. In reality, it is only the weird activation key generator file that is causing the issue. I've used it many times myself with no issues. It is just the nature of software like this that causes false flags.
