What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

This (2 port) is what I’m using. The steel wool acts in a similar way that the baffles and brass breather works in mine.

It’s just give the oil a lot of surface area to stick to so it won’t just mist right in through to the intake.

Lazy Sunday today, had to find something to do.
This came in the mail Friday and did a little mod with an emblem I already had and some 3M two sided tape. All of you "Back To The Future" fans know this dealership. ;-)

 

only thing you need to watch out for is companies charging hundreds of dollars for them. The one you quoted is perfect, I have a similar one, if not the same one, installed in my S4. You’ll want to pick up some quality fuel hose from the parts store though. The hoses that come with it are crap.

 

Hey @Digiratus, turns out it is the same one I have in the S4

 

It is one of a couple of options. How sturdy is the mounting bracket on it? That and where I will mount it are concerns I have. Room is at a premium.

 

Can you elaborate on what you use these for? Are they for supercharged engines? Where are they located/hooked up to?

 

The quality of the can and bracket is actually really nice. Well worth the investment especially under $30. I have a different brand catch can mounted in my Tacoma engine bay as well. Can’t remember the brand off the top of my head (ADD i think) but I have it mounted on the passenger fender between the air box and cruise control.

 

The space between the airbox and the firewall on mine is prime real estate and all spoken for. The most likely mounting spot for me is where you have your winch solenoid mounted.

On a vehicle without a catch can, the outlet from the PCV (relieves the crankcase of excess gases) goes directly to the intake manifold/plenum to burn the gases safely instead of venting the gases off into the atmosphere (which used to be the standard back in the day). During the return of those gases to the intake, oil will often follow with the gases, leaving an oily mess in your intake and on your intake valves (often referred to as carbon buildup). The function of the catch can is sit between the PCV and the intake/SC to trap the passing oil to reduce carbon buildup and prolong the life of the engine.

Yup. That's what I was thinking and why I asked about that mounting bracket.

 

Welp you guys have peeked my interest since I've already got the parts for a new PCV valve anyways.

 

Interesting, I've got a really crowded engine bay, like to know where people are mounting these-

Edit, looked a few posts back- I’d have to get creative. I am going supercharger, might need to clean stuff up

 

Biggest thing is making sure it seals good and it has a lot of "stuff" in it for the oil in the air vapor to condense onto. More surface area the better. Steel woof is the cheapest way to do that obviously.












And a questionf for the hive mind..



I am having issues with my 03 not wanting to fill up the gas tank anymore. Im certain its an EVAP issue, probably a plugged hose somewhere. Those that have been wheeling with me in the last 2-3 years will have known that you can smell gas from my truck on hot days.

Anyways, anyone ever dealt with this and know the solution before I go dropping the tank to get to the EVAP shit?

 

on a forced induction application the real benefit is keeping the oil particles from lowering the octane of the gas in boost which reduces the chances of knock.

 

On a port injected N/A there’s no real benefit besides cleaner runners before the injectors.
