Bought a factory drivers side storage compartment last week out of a junk yard and got it installed with some U-clips.

I'm in SoCal. Guy in my condo complex got his 3rd gen Tacoma cat stolen (just one of the two downstream ones). In California, you have to replace stolen cats with an OEM one. Current backorder is 4+ weeks. Since a police report was made, he can technically still drive the truck until the new OEM one arrives, but it's really loud and he's getting mixed opinions on if it will damage his truck. As such, he opted to rent a car for 3-4 weeks from Enterprise. The car shortage has also impacted the rental market, so that's probably a hassle as well. Getting your cat stolen in California is a major hassle right now.

Thinking about taking the front Air dam off. Just about ready for my next tank of gas and figure I can use this tank as an experiment to see what it does to gas mileage.

Took mine off the day after I bought it, don't know if it helps or hurts mileage but it looks better without it.

IMO, the issue is the demand. Eliminate the demand, you eliminate the supply. If the shady auto wreckers were heavily fined for accepting these units without an actual legitimate vehicle serial # or metal recyclers accepting the contents of the CAT were fined and shut down I think this issue could be remedied.

That's it LOL. Just thinking that about 80% of my driving is local highways to/from work, so if it's a BIG difference, that ould suck. if I still get like 19-20 on my otherwise stock truck, it's awesome.

I average about 19-20 (hand calculated, don't trust what the truck tells you) and most of my driving is less than 10 mile trips. If I hit the highway it's a lot more

awesome. My truck says about 40 miles left until fill and I've gotten over 350 miles this tank. I'll be filling it up in another 20 and hand calculate my MPG based on how much gas goes in. Then I'll compare it to what the truck says. I'm not super concerned, just a numbers junkie.

Why wouldn’t you trust the truck? I’ve done written calculations and compared them to a few different vehicles. Which I guess means I didn’t trust them either. Seriously though, trucks aren’t liars, they might be wrong, but they aren’t liars.

Because of the hand calculations, what the truck said and what it actually was, I was lied too

That’s exactly what Oregon is doing, but Portland is right across the Columbia River from Washington so they would need to do the same. Specifically it is a law that prohibits scrap metal businesses from purchasing the converters except from a commercial seller. It would also require that scrap metal businesses retain the vehicle identification number and license number associated with the converter, making it easier to track.

Yeah, I know about the composition of air, which is why I am questioning putting 20% more nitrogen in my tires than was already there and calling it a feature.

A friend of mine just had her cat stolen from her Honda Element right in front of her office in broad daylight. They took about 3 feet of pipe, the cat and sensors. It has been a nightmare getting it fixed. I specifically came in here today to look for a way to prevent this happening to my truck, so thanks. :)
