Other than how expensive it is.. pretty much

Thanks to my wife I'm now much better than I was when I was younger. I would collect ANYTHING I felt I could strip down to raw materials or repurpose for something else.... dead appliances big and small, every small engine scored cylinders or not, anything made out of hard plastic. Just stupid stuff lol

And I miss all the trash like that I've thrown away, years later and I still think about it occasionally

You’re in good company here then. I still grab old electronics on occasion, but I’ve got a rule now that it has to fit in a tub designated for old parts. Once the tub is full it that’s it, gotta take out old to put new in.

Right now it’s got a bunch of optics and steppers from that spotlight I tore down 5 years ago

I literally just got a call from our VP of Account Sales on how to move files from one folder into another on her computer. And ended up having to do it for her.

Drag and drop/copy and paste is hardly a technical skill lady, c'mon now

On another note, how much obsolete stuff gets tossed makes me sad. Stuff is way too disposable :(

I think that everybody who survived the Great Depression has or had some hoarding tendencies. Don't throw it away. It might be worth something someday.

Oh dude it's so much worse than any of us can comprehend. During covid especially, places like Amazon and Walmart were getting so many returns and they couldn't restock any of it due to the virus concerns. Most of that shit just ended up in landfills or fell off a ship in the ocean someplace. It's pretty fucked.

Can’t blame her, it’s a super new concept that they only came out with in 1984, during the Cold War.

It was probably one of the OG computer commands

And she's maybe only 5 years older than I am

Yeah it’s bad. Can’t beat the power of economics, especially when priceless externalities are involved.

Yup that's a very accurate statement! Although my grandparents who helped raise me lived through the great depression, they weren't big on hoarding.. they were however, VERY big on repairing what you already have and not throwing things away unnecessarily.

I agree that the throwaway culture we've grown into as Americans is very depressing to me :(

It's like every time my mother in law comes over, or we go over there...she has a list of stuff she wants my wife and I to take home with us and we have to turn it down almost 100% of the time. Our attic is full of sentimental "family treasures" that no one has looked at or used in generations yet somehow it's not worth getting rid of. Someone else just has to get suckered into hoarding it until they pawn it off on the next person lol. Drives me nuts.

There's a market for nightmare fuel though, it starts about now and ends after Oct. 31st. Maybe even after xmas for those Nightmare Before Christmas types
