    I'm not a fan of composite decks either , composite decking is made by combining sawdust and garbage bags , unlike lumber which will expand and contract in width and depth , composite also expands and contracts along it's length . We installed a composite deck for a client last year , the manufacturer requires a 1/4" gap at all butt joints between boards , it looks horrible and to top it off they close and open seasonally and at differing rates among the boards so after a year the deck looks terrible .

    Beyond that in my area I can buy clear old growth 2x6 cedar in 20' lengths for less money that composite.
