I'd get the fan if it was temperature controlled automatically. That would be good to have. If not, you'll be ok without it.

thanks that's what I was thinking. The additional in-line thermostat you can control to turn on ad a specific temp so say 195 and up it turns on. that part I liked. The question then would be pusher or puller style upfront.

    Any info on it?

I ran a mishimoto 160 for a couple months and had to swap back to the URD 170. The truck never got up to temp and would idle around 1k rpms. Fuel mileage also took a dump so I swapped back to the 170 and haven’t looked back. Not trying to steer you away, but my 160 didn’t like the mild winters we have here in TX so just something to consider

ah ok a pull setup in the bed. For that is not an option unless I want to toss it on the top of the truck. Would be a great setup if I had a different setup.

I have the Mishimoto 160 as well. Only issue I had was a P0128 (not warming up quick enough) but I fixed that with HP Tuners. To me it warms up plenty quick, but I think it was just barely over the threshold in the stock tune when its really cold (for Houston) and I'm driving like a grandpa. Around town the truck runs 180-190. Still creeps up slowly to 200 if I sit idling with AC on for around 30 minutes. Eventually I'll figure out the Camaro fan and that should take care of the idle temp creep.

Good to know, exactly what I was afraid of / looking to see if it’s been a problem for anyone.

I doubt I’ll have an issue in SoCal, but I think I’ll go for it and see this “winter”

I'm running the URD 160. I wanted as much as I could get being in the Arizona desert and I had some overheating issues prior during the sand drags and long wheeling trips. Haven't had any issues with it but also haven't looked into or compared the temp difference too much afterwards... I just haven't had the overheating issues since.

It's been a while since I posted here. I didn't catch up on everything but it's nice to be reading the conversation again.

Thought some of you might appreciate this. Given that a couple of the intercooler lid bolts had stripped out holes, I drilled and tapped for larger bolts. Kind of an engine bay dress up thing at the same time.

Are you running a bigger radiator? I remember getting that code too. I bet it’d be okay during the summer here. I probably made the mistake of swapping it in right before it got cold lol.

Definitely give it a shot and see how your motor likes it. The worst that could happen is another swap and some more coolant

great work! I need to do this as well. What size did you go with, M8? The round head bolts look good as well

Yep M8x1.25. Found a pack of bolts on Amazon. Honestly I was just like "I'm pretty sure these will work" without really measuring and they worked very well.

You have something grounded to the top lid bolt?
I figured it was for the oem air box or something and I won’t be using it when I install.

Also noted on the weak lid bolts.. I’ll be careful torquing then.

I can't leave anything well enough alone
Any reason not to replace the bolts with a stud and nut setup (either M6 or M8)? That would eliminate the in/out wear on the threads with a short bolt and possibly loose thread engagement. It appears the bolts are all on the same plane, but perhaps the lid would be really hard to remove if it had to slip over a bunch of studs that weren't all perfect?
