You have to pay to play. 50 sucky miles is nothing compared to better low rpm response for the life of the truck

He bought his truck used not new and Tacoma's were never made in Japan as they are only for the North American market.

I've never had any reliability issues, that's really why you get them because they keep going forever and they are very capable. I do think that when you get to the premium trim prices the interior is absolute trash for how much the truck costs. Like inexcusably bad. It looks fine in a picture. Steering wheel is fine. Everything else is shit. *edit to add: Even some of the things that look fine at first glance (but feel cheap) when you inspect the edges its like a 4 year old did a bad job cutting the plastic off the mold.

I bitched a TON about my 2016. Came back and got a Taco with even less power because I've come to terms with all of this. I disagree on the sound system, though. The access cab actually has a decent amount of juice for the size.

Yeah, strong agree there. Its basically starter car/work truck quality. Looks fine in the SR. Total rip off in an OR Premium or TRD Pro.

One good thing about owning a Toyota is the community on here. Its the most active vehicle website in the world if I recall.

Don't lie to the man! Nowadays, you'd have to sell TWO! brand new Tacoma's to afford one of those... That thing is gorgeous though.

    OP,

Very sorry that this is happening to you. I know that must be frustrating as all get out. Take a deep breath and breakdown the issues one by one. I know that sucks because you shouldn't have to do that for a new truck with low mileage. But it is what it is at this point.

Since the truck is still under warranty, I would focus on the two issues that pertain to the truck outside of your discomfort with the transmission:

    1) The shaking. Keep plugging away at this and make sure the dealer resolves it 100 percent. If they don't consider taking it to another dealer for a second opinion and also calling Toyota and opening a case file so that you have a paper trail.

    2) The vibrating. Not sure exactly what you mean here but, no, this is not normal. Again, take it back to the dealer, get another opinion on this and open a claim with Toyota.

Run those two issues to ground and get them sorted. Yes, it sucks but it is probably worth the effort.

After you have those two issues resolved, then go on to addressing the transmission challenge. Before you run out and get it tuned, it might be worth reaching out to a guy here who is an expert / wizard / genius, etc. regarding the tunes -- Papa Rey (sorry, don't have his exact moniker but someone here will, for sure). I would talk to him and tell him what you are experiencing and he should be able to advise you on whether or not the tune would solve your problem with the transmission. If you feel comfortable at that point, go for it.

The other option, which is also reasonable, is to go to the dealer and ask them what they will take if you trade in the truck and get another truck (assuming you want one) or another car. Might be interesting to see what they say and what kind of firm deal (with numbers) they put on the table for you to consider.

Again, sorry this is happening to you -- best of luck in sorting it out. Definitely post back what you decide and how it all works out.

First off you paid 46k for a sport ? ….did you test drive before purchase not just around the block drive .ya the auto sucks why i went with a manual . The brakes are not the greatest but over time they get better . I would get the ov tune to get rid of the programming of the transmission.

this is the worst time to try to get a new car. if he is going to replace it, he should not sell it. if he doesnt need to replace it, then go ahead and get rid of the shit if you dont like it.

Depends. Pre pandemic you could get a Pro for hardly any more than a fully loaded OR or Sport. I ended up getting mine for a couple grand less than the OR I went to look at from a dealer that still had a '19 after the '20 came out. I didn't care about the Pro or go there for it, but now I'm glad I did because the resell on the Pro is going up more than the other models, and it handles, rides, and sounds far better and I'm not one to do upgrades.

Also regarding something else you posted, Pros were all made in Texas until this year.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I'd say that it's 70% of the people who post on TW have an issue that they'd like to resolve.
Some are petty, others are serious.
Give the number of Tacos sold, I think that the 70% posting here on TW are insignificant.
A greater number post with an issue than post with a "I'm totally happy with my Taco."
