Daytime running lights won't turn off on son's 2016

My son calls me and says his daytime running lights and rear running lights won't turn off. It's killing his battery so he disconnects the battery when he gets home from work, then reconnects it when he goes to work, then disconnect, and so on and so on. The dealerships in his city can't get him an appointment till next week.

He has searched the internet (including TW) but can't seem to solve this mystery. He's a Police Officer and works the night shift (12-hour shifts) so he's very limited with what he can do until his next day off (next week, go figure), and he needs his pickup truck to pay the bills.

He did say there are two fuze boxes on a 2016 Tacoma Sport and maybe it's as simple as replacing a fuze. I said there may be a clue in the owners manuel as well. This is so "not" Tacoma, as it's barely five years old and just turned over a 100,00 miles. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.....

I'm guessing he cycled the light switch to make sure that wasn't an issue?

I've set my emergency brake and turned my truck off and that's turned off the lights I forgot to switch off. Not sure if 3rd gens function the same

Have him try to hit the lock button twice on his remote, that should force them to auto shut off. If not, It sounds like maybe a short in the auto shut off circuit controlled by the bcu. Body Control Module

Thanks guys. And he just called me and said he got it fixed ! He read the chapter in the owners manuel that covers electrical, then wiped off the daytime running light sensor located near the passenger side of the windshield (he said it looks just like the camera lens on his iphone), then found the fuze that controls the daytime running lights, took it out, noted that it was not blown, wiped it dry and put it back in and "abra-cadabra", problem solved. He believes it could have been something as simple as condensation (I'm a Retired Army dude and this is not my area of expertise). Thank you Mr Heyyo_Friday and Mr TacoTuesdayNJ........

No really NJ, thank you all, and this forum. I know sometimes I get on here and smoke and joke with people from time to time but this one had me feeling helpless. He's two states away, protects and defends his community every single night, and all I could do was sit here in Texas and hope someone would chime in and give some great advice and you all did. I love this website.......

Hey Tex, any chance you recall if his internal blower(heater/ac) was also running?

My headlights, fan, and dash all stay on unless I manually turn lights to off. This just started happening over winter. Has killed my battery twice.
