Welcome to the forum. I’d say with the used prices so high right now just dump it and find something that makes you happy. Life is way too short to be unhappy with your ride.

I had a 2006 Xterra with the same drivetrain, 6MT and could not agree more. The only reason I got a Tacoma is that Nissan did away with the 6MT. I am mostly satisfied, but 5th and 6th are geared too high, as is reverse.

Yeah....use ECT, and get a tundra's fuel economy with more engine noise, and longer shifts.

Yes, on the factory tune it tries to get into 6th gear as fast as humanly possible, then because it has no low end torque, it downshifts to 5th and sometimes to 4th and repeats the process again and again.

I've been done buying used vehicles unless knowing exactly who owned it. There's always a very good chance your buying someone else's problems.

The reviews are 9/10. US News says it has a 'muscular engine'.

My tacoma originally did that on its maiden trip home from the dealer. I had to question myself what i just bought. As i put more and more miles it shifted more normal. At 1,500 miles it was very good. Now at 11k miles i can't ask for this truck to perform any better.

I would have been suspicious of why the truck was being sold with 5,000 miles on it... was it a trade in?

I believe your previous owner took that vehicle through 5,000 very tough miles.

just spend the $ and get @PapaRee to hook you up with a KDMax tune. You will find it is worth every penny. Want to bitch - take it back to Toyota and tell them to shove it! Then buy a Ford. GL.

Toyota trucks are generally bullet proof and the resale of these machines is through the roof! I've had mine for 14 years now and the only issue so far was a burned out taillight bulb. Last one was a 4Runner bought new back in 88... put 350,000 miles on it and it was running like new when i sold it.... just changed the fluids and a couple tune-ups. Maybe the dealer would work with you on trading it back for a new (with no miles) truck?

Suggestions I have a few. First, don’t spend another red cent on it, trying this or that magic fix. It's toast.
Instead, you could try and double down on your luck to get the all new Ford electric F-150 lightening. No transmission worries, no bad fuel to buy and worry about and no mo’ oil changes either.

But if that’s outside the scope of your current circumstances, you could trade your highly rated and valued taco for the Frontier and just ride a second rated vehicle and maybe pocket some change until you’re ready to roll the dice again.

    Best of luck
