The branch is probably going to break soon. I noticed it today. It was fully covered by leaves

Ok that looks more like a build a fire under it the smoke will help calm them if they are like honeybees. Then grab a pole saw and cut the branch letting it fall right into the fire.

(No I haven’t done this to honeybees before)

yellow jackets tend to prefer burrowing. That big and out in the open like that is most likely paper wasps or white face hornets. If you can somehow reach it with a vacuum then put some soapy water in the bottom of a shop vac and hold it by the entrance. They have this thing where they don't attack around the nest till they go inside and go into defense mode so you gotta vacuum them up as they come back out. Even then that'd be really dangerous, especially if it's white face hornets just a few of them could get deadly fast. Your best bet would be to leave them alone as best you can and torch it over the winter or find a professional willing to do it

How many entrances do their nests typically have?

You're 100 percent right they're white faced hornets. I've seen them flying around the yard and thought I've never seen a white hornet before...

I’ve seen some in the past, I just never gave much thought to it since they didn’t bother me and I didn’t bother them

I’ve had several run-ins with bald faced hornets. They are the worst. Super aggressive and defensive.
I’ve been stung about 1/2 a dozen times and had a pretty bad reaction on each occasion.

About 4 years ago I had a bald faced hornet nest in a bush on my property that I simply could not get close enough to kill. I got so frustrated I literally destroyed the bush by getting in my truck and repeatedly running it over until the nest was exposed.

afterwards a combination of chemical warfare and fire did the rest.

    None...yet.
+1 on the white face wasps. Had a nest of them here in Allentown last year. I tried spray it. All that did was piss them off. I setup 2 of tje yellow traps from HD and waited till the first hard frost. A read that they don't re settle in the same nest. Good luck!

From what i've seen usually just the big one at the bottom but idk if that's all they'll make

Edit: bit of googling says they sometimes make multiple entrances. Be sketchy af to try and do a removal like that lol

yea those are rough, stings hurt bad bad and even with a bee suit they can spray venom in your eyes. Best to stay away and warn people to do the same then torch it come winter. Like, till there's nothing left, torch it
