I think pulling on one side would stress the struts and possibly the hinges. But I’m thinking I could just as easily grab the top roof edge as the handle. Thing is, I never liked pulling the tent down by its sides to get to the handle. I think it’s bad for the tent. I have always wished I had a strap to pull. Just my opinion.

Grabbing the top of the wedge would probably work - the channel up on top would help with grip. I usually stand up on the top of the tailgate so I only need to pull on the fabric once to get the handle in reach. Those who are taller might not need to grab fabric at all. A strap would be nice.

What backup camera are you using? Looks like a clean install thru the 3rd tail light.

I have similar backup camera I'm planning to install. Do you think you get a better view up there? I was planning on mounting mine on the license plate.

You'll get a better view overall up there, but having it down low will be a better aspect for actually backing up. The existing backup camera has been pretty good at letting me back up very close but without hitting objects behind the truck.

I carry a moto on a hitch rack on a lot of trips which blocks the existing backup camera, so for me it has to be mounted up high.

So, to close the camper top, there is a grab handle and no strap?

When you pay your bigger deposit, you choose the options then.

Correct and the other "tip" for closing, which was mentioned recently, was to bear hug/squeeze the waist of the tent to get the lid to come down until you can reach it.
Like others than mentioned it, with it being a non-PVC coated canvas(-like) material, it's likely to get dirty and lose water repellency with your dirty/outside/greasy camp hands.

Note to those that install a strap on you own: If you put one outside, think about a way to tether it down at night when it is windy. It gets noisy sometimes when that's flapping around and slapping the tent.

Id most likely only add a handle strap when im going to pop the top, remove it when its down. A dog leash would do.

Bummer was hoping to just order the mounts themselves. I’ll email and see if they will sell.

you could just do an eye bolt and carabiner/clip something on - great idea with the dog leash!

I wonder if this will impact your gzilla "awning" system, as the rear awning will seemingly be in the way of the metal bars.

    A dog leash works great.
