Don't they factor in any complaints in their reliability rating? If that's the case, then it would make it seem like there was a legit issue with the transmission that would cause it to fail, even when that's not the case. For all of the complaints about the engine and transmission, they both seem to be pretty reliable thus far.

Consumer Reports reliability ratings are ridiculous. It's just a customer satisfaction survey and a TSB count without any analysis on if the TSB is to fix an actual design flaw, like Focus RS's coming out of the factory with the wrong head gasket installed will get the same points as a fix for saggy sunvisors or an infotainment bug. Like has anyone heard of any actual reliability problems with that auto yet? I still haven't.

I mean I've never even driven an auto 3rd gen so no clue if the shift point whining is warranted or blown way out proportion but either way, not liking the transmission's shift points does not make it unreliable and a TSB to reprogram it after customer complaints is also not a reliability issue.

But when I took my Tesla to the gas station the pump wouldn't fit in the socket so I spilled gas everywhere and now it won't move, what a piece of junk.

I can't complain one bit about my tacoma....runs like a sumbitch. Been asked if its got a turbo. It'd smoke my gen1 tundra v8 in the 1/4.

Not the parts I'd go after first to address a braking issue. Especially since one doesn't even exist.

You're not happy. Go get something else.

That sucks! You should dump that garbage and write Elon a letter, telling him to do better. No wonder his Starship prototypes keep blowing up. Probably sharing parts to save money.

The only reason I'd dump my Tacoma would be for a full size again, and the only full size I'd buy is this....
So based on that and that alone you clearly need to buy a Power Wagon too.

    You're welcome.

Actually though if we're talking about Teslas and CR that's a case-in-point example of why CR is only useful for an average-person consensus on if they liked the car and claiming that they rate reliability is, well I was going to say absurd but in this case I'll say ludicrous.

The Model 3 has top marks but if you've read into them and Teslas in general they do not hold up well past a few years. A lot of the components Tesla uses are 'industrial grade', which sounds pretty good till you realize that 'industrial grade' does not mean the same durability standard as 'automotive grade'. Like you know that huge beautiful display that especially a few years ago but even still blows everyone else's out of the water as far as visual quality goes? Yeah it's not that Tesla engineered some great display that Bosch or whatever supplier couldn't figure out, it's that you cannot get an automotive grade display at that resolution yet and it'll bubble and delaminate after a few years of sun, heat and cold exposure. They cut corners all over the place.

Not to mention that Teslas get over the air software updates all the time. How exactly is that any different from the transmission and TSS recode TSBs? It isn't.

This all actually has a relevant point, you know how Toyotas across the board and particularly the trucks tend to seem a little behind other brands as far as the powertrains, infotainment etc? That's actually for durabilities sake. I mean for all of the issues that get beaten to death around here how many reports of actual, serious mechanical problems have you seen? Really not many.

Sure, the 3rd gen isn't the most refined vehicle ever. It makes some clunks and can be a bit rattly. Guess what? Trucks do that sometimes. Especially ones with a lot of suspension travel and lightly sprung leaf packs. The people who spend time on forums like this are hypersensitive to noises and feelings that most drivers don't even notice.

Get the KDMAX tune, it really transformed my truck.

Before the tune at about 1,800 miles the wife and I took a day trip. It was super windy that day, about 35mph and gusting higher. On the trip out we were fighting the wind and the truck really struggled. I'd have to say it was the worst, for any vehicle I've ever driven... it was that bad. 6th gear was useless and 5th was nearly useless. At the time KDMAX was new and there were no tuners in my area. I'd been on the fence with the extra expense of the VFTuner needed to load the tune. I pulled the trigger when we got home from the road trip and haven't looked back.

After putting a couple thousand on KDmax I asked PapaRee to increase the shift points a bit for 5th and 6th gears. On the stock KDmax I still found it tried to get into the overdrive gears too early. Now the truck drives great. It still has no torque down low, but it also doesn't try to live there any more. And my mileage is still much better than stock.

There is such a thing as taking a test drive at any toyota dealer that has one.

Ridgeline hate makes about as much sense to me as people complaining Tacomas have minivan engines. What's even more baffling is the fact that it's often the same people making the comparison.

Yeah, my minivan with a truck bed may be a dog, but at least it's body on frame.:rofl:

I actually didn't know that about the Teslas. I agree that Toyota seems to wait until technology and such is a little more proven before putting it in their vehicles, but that makes sense with their focus on QDR, like you said. I'm perfectly fine with that. My truck has all the tech I need and I think it will be plenty reliable. Most of the complaints on here are things that annoy people, but doesn't affect reliability. Not seeing a lot of failures leaving people stranded, considering how many of the these trucks are on the road now. It may not be the smoothest or the fastest, but it just suits me and my needs and I like it. This has been my favorite truck that I've owned.

Pretty sure the Ridgeline hater contingent has substantial overlap with the lifted-for-aesthetic reasons only contingent. Actually I would bet the average Ridgeline owner does more truck stuff with their truck than the average Ridgeline hater. If you use your truck as a tool you can see how the Ridgeline could also make a good tool, even if it wouldn’t fit your needs. If your truck is a lifestyle accessory yeah the Ridgeline is not that.

Makes way more sense than any of the alternatives if you need an open bed but don’t want to go off road or tow much. Honestly all in all probably makes a better utility vehicle than a Tacoma. Better payload and there’s only a slim amount of towing needs that the Ridgeline couldn’t handle before you’d really need a full size
