Is the culvert pipe for noise control?

I can answer that: yes and no.
When I saw the previous post with him shooting through the concrete culvert, it reminded me of a range day when I was stationed in Germany back in 1991. That range (Ramstein AB) also had firing positions through concrete pipes, but they were about 5 feet in diameter and had wood linings with eggcrate foam, and were about 30 feet long. They were primarily used for machine gun shooting, and yes, they were designed to knock the noise level down beyond the range, and worked fairly well at quieting the muzzle blast from adjacent shooting positions.

But..... if you were the guy shooting through the pipe, all it did was echo back at you, in a big way. Shooting a full auto M16 was not terrible, but an M60, or worse, a WWII MG42, was like getting gut punched with every round unless you were prone, and then it was like someone slapping the top of your head. But damn, was it fun!

I have seen ranges that had people shoot through restricting objects like that to also reduce the chance they shoot over the berm.

My new AR47 is finished and tested. She runs great after opening up the gas port. Guess that's just a symptom of 7.62x39 in an AR platform.

Any thoughts on ditching the rear BUIS to move the micro 3x back to get better eye relief or just live with it?

i live with mine, wish mags were better with eye relief but that is just the reality with any mag optic - because of that i have to run the stock fairly short and been debating swapping the grip for a steeper b5 to deal with it for comfort. I might ditch buis all together once i decide to set it up for nods but for now it will remain as is

i have another build i have been experimenting with a 3x prism with offset and its pretty comfy but still the prism eye relief sucks

I'm living with it too. It's better when it's moved back a little more but that would mean ditching the rear buis all together. For the amount I use the 3x I just live with shortening up the stock and leaning more forward.
I'm glad you mentioned that about the 3x prism b/c that is where I was thinking about going with the next build but didn't even consider the eye relief being poor on that also if it isn't mounted super far back which I didn't plan on doing.
