You prolly would benefit from buying a used kayak to see if kayaking suits you. Once you have a boat you’ll need a couple of oars and life jackets. Then you may want some wheel thingies to move it around on land. None of it is crazy expensive, but costs can add up quickly.
You should also think about how you will transport it.
Ocean Kayak, Wilderness Systems, and Hobie make nice tandem kayaks. Hobie’s are very expensive though.
Find a friend with a yak or rent one be to get a feel for it.
And don’t let any yahoo’s on TW tell you to get a motor for it.

Why a tandem kayak and not a canoe? I'm looking at getting one or the other, just curious some other opinions on pros and cons.

Canoes are so big, at least the ones I’ve seen. I want something I can put on top of my shell for transport that I can get up there myself too.

Very good sir! I almost spit out my coffee!
    I
Does his weed crop get harvested in September? :D:rofl:

I haven’t found any wheel thingies that were cheap, I need some. Those yak motors do seem like they would be fun…:boink: more on that in a minute

So my replacement foot pegs came in for my yak. I cleaned it all up, mounted the pegs and took it to the river for a test. Remember, my kayak was one my son bought used and I’ve now inherited, I didn’t see any structural issues when I cleaned it up but I’ve never seen it float. I splash the boat and float around in it close to the dock and bank for about 10 minutes, get out and check the hull. No water inside! Ok, let’s play for a little while. I paddle out of the boat launch area and played around for about 30-40 minutes. The yak tracks ok but the bow does bob back and forth with each paddle stroke. I think it needs a skeg or rudder to help out if I want to take it for any distance in the river or bays.

Everything was going good when the big ol' sun decided to pop out of the clouds, holy cow it got HOT fast! I headed back to the boat ramp and was wishing I had one of them yak motors to get back there quick. I had left my phone in the truck in case I did the titanic on my test float. I check the weather app and see we are having a high heat warning and the current heat index is 110*. No wonder it felt hot! Anyway, yak works, now I just need to save up a small fortune of money to get a feeschin license. Florida has gone crazy with the license fees! I may just paddle the boat around and buy fish at the market.

Sounds like you’re off and running!!
Now that you know it floats you can bring your phone/camera. Because, you know, this thread is worthless without pictures.

Thanks for the info on yaks, I realize I have until next spring to find one. Only two more weekends to fish and deer season comes in and the poles go up :anonymous:
