He did say that the manual transmission in this truck is beautiful!
    I tend to agree.:)

I got the autotragic transmission since wife said she can drive it too.
Almost a year in and she has yet to even sit in the driver’s seat.

Man that sucks. Luckily, well not really, my wife doesn’t even drive. Will suck if we go camping and i break my legs, haha.

Seriously though this AT is not bad at all. It’s different, yes and most people don’t like it or don’t want to get used to it. I have 2 buddies with 3rd gen ATs and IMHO they drive/shift just fine, considering I hate slushboxes.

This guy is awesome and he has a previous video breaking down the engine. Unfortunately it does give some cause for concern for long term reliability and the somewhat strange direction toyota went in with these trucks. Still fairly solid overall. I’m seriously considering trading in for a 4Runner.

Well there is nothing strange about it IMHO. They had to do it because of the EPA.

3rd gens have been out for 5 years now and I haven’t heard any transmission failures. These are Aisin transmissions, they always have been bulletproof. I have no doubt that this 6spd will be just as reliable as the 5spd in the 4runners, fjs and 2nd gen tacos.

These “new” 6 spd ATs are lighter and more robust.

You’d have to put another 20-30k on top of your truck for the privilege of doing that.

Your not wrong. I’ll wait and see if the market comes down and if I’m still leaning 4Runner grab one next year before the redesign. I put a pretty large down payment on my truck so should be able to get out of it and into something else fairly easily.

That’s encouraging to hear. I understand them being beholden to epa regs but it still seems they went in a different direction with the Tacoma in regards to mechanical and tech specs while the tundra and 4Runner remained the same and get pretty bad mpg. I like my truck but it feels like it has its quirks. To be fair so did my 08 regular cab Taco and I loved that truck.

I guess that’s because they sell more tacos than 4runners and tundras. They had to bring that EPA average down.

Every vehicle has its quirks though. I’ve never had a perfect vehicle, although this Tacoma is very close.:)

Forgot to mention. New tundra is coming with the TT3.5 and I’m pretty sure next gen 4 runner will be getting 3.5 as well. Or maybe that 2.4 turbo that’s in the Lexus, hmmmmm.

There is no inventory and tons of markups on everything. Getting out is easy .. getting in … not so much

I’m curious to see how the tundra shakes out. Hard to see those old V8s go but it makes sense and things change. My wife has a 2020 4Runner and that thing is amazing.

    Informative video, thanks for sharing.

I’m a fairly new Tacoma owner and new around here as well so I’m trying to learn more about everything. This was a good one.

Same here, super curious about the new tundra. I hope it will be an f150 killer, haha! Those v8s are great, but 12-13 mpg not so great, especially with today’s gas prices.

My dad has 2 4runners, one is 2007 and one is 2013, he loves them both. 2007 is a bush truck, looks horrible but drives amazing.
