Looks like the motor on my 2006 Tacoma 4cyl 2TR-FE has taken a dump. Can anyone direct me where to go on this forum or if necessary another location to find a decent used motor? Thanks for your help!

welcome to TW!! I’d call some salvage yards in your area to see if they have anything. LKQ is another option as they have yards all over the country and can ship it from one to a yard close to you. Good luck!

What makes you think the motor is bad, the 2TR-FE is pretty bulletproof?
You could check with salvage yards in your area, Hollander Parts, or the 2nd Gen Parts Marketplace (there's a minimum post count to be able to post here but you can search).

You can try Car-Part.com or the classified section here.

May be worth it to buy a rolled truck or wrecked off craigslist.

Could be time for a V6 swap.

It's not THAT bulletproof. They are still prone to valve and head gasket issues and if he has high mileage on it then it wouldn't surprise me if he had major issues in one of those areas.

True but still best to verify parts are bad before replacing:thumbsup:

Oh absolutely! You never go for triple bypass heart surgery before confirming that aspirin won't fix it. :p

This, or one with a junk frame.

I own the same year with the same motor, what constitutes "taken a dump", just wondering, as I too thought these motors were very hard to kill?

Perhaps expand your search to cold weather states, OP. More chance of a frame rotting and having a sweet engine donor truck
